With Cyber Monday coming up soon, I'm debating upgrading my video card to a 2080 (Super or TI), and the power supply to handle it (500w to 650w).

An MSI 1080 OC'd (+110 core clock, +75 mem clock) is currently powering my Valve Index.

I know we are cpu rate limited, but I'm wondering if the 2080 will allow me to start using MSAA, etc etc for better clarity (I know it won't change the 45fps ASW world we all live in).

Upgrade Yes/No?

If Yes, the Super with less ram but high clock rate?

If Yes, the Ti with more ram but lower clock rate?

...Or wait another year for the inevitable NVidia 3080 :-)

When talking about VR the general: "For DCS you only need high single core clock" isn't as valid as without VR. You still need a beefy processor sure, but if using VR the GPU gains a lot more importance than previously.

Depends on how much money is an issue for you. Get the 2080 Ti if you can. You could also get the 2080 Super as a transition card, wait for the next generations to release (AMD) aswell, and both will be more in competition than the years before. Very likely this drives prices of 2xxx and 3xxx series or AMD ones down.

It's not going to be a year, five months if not earlier, I honestly expect the 3000 series to be launched near March or April.

Rumor-mill has it that the 3070 and 3080 will have 12gb vram . Might be worth the wait...
