After having problems skinning the vert stabs on the Walmis F-15, I decided to see exactly where the textures are mapped on the 3D model by using Ice's template as a starting point and overlaying bright colors on the basic shapes.

Unfortunately, this was the result for the right side:

The right outside and left inside textures are overlapping.

The problem might also exist on the other side but is not apparent because the shapes in the template are seperated and don't fully cover the vert stab models.

So, knowing the the model can't be edited, does that mean that the texture mapping is locked also or can it still be changed?

Do you have the walmis template? Look at my sig. Now that was a skin done by another modder for the old F15 .Got the old template and overlaped it, usinig both templates, I layered one over the other then brought up the walmas template and got the proper positions for his pieces. The skin fits perfect. Hope this might get you on the right road. Cheer.

The real problem has nothing to do with positioning. The real problem is not that the skin doesn't fit. The leading edges of the vert stabs are using the same parts of the texture file for different areas. It is plainly visible in the right side, blue and violet picture above. But the positioning on the template needs work too.

I'm almost done with a template for the tail that will make the overlapped areas obvious for skinners so that they can either make sure that those areas will all be the same solid color or anything other than a solid color can be designed to work through the overlap. Some designs will still be impossible but the template will help with workarounds.
