Anyone here using a Gigabyte Aorus pro/elite with a 9700K, the last 2 mobo's I have had are Asus, a Rampage Formula and at the moment a Maximus V Formula. I am looking to upgrade to the above mobo (Pro version) and CPU plus 32 gig 3200 memory. I have been looking at benchmarks and the gigabyte pro/elite seems to have the best VRM and thermals to reduce CPU throttling, (not too keen on the BIOS though)

The 9700K is within a few FPS of the 9900K but after watching benchmarks the 9900K having H/T, it seems to run cooler and is about 30% less usage in the same scenarios, but saving £150 I can live with that as the only non gaming thing I do on my PC is photo editing

I am not keen on spending ASUS prices this time when I have read they have been cheaping out on components.

I know this is DCS world forum, but I cant be bothered asking on OCUK as all you get on there is "why buy a 9700K when a 3700X is cheaper" doh.gif

Exactly !

In addition, it runs even cooler, comes with a cooler and likely outperforms th 9700k in every aspect incl. DCS.

Since you run a 2080 "only" you will be GPU limited anyway and it wouldnt matter if 9600k, 9700k, 9900KS or any Ryzen 3000. You would likely be within 1-3fps with each of them, the higher your resolution the tighter the gap.

For photo editing you can likely use SMT/HT very well. Most apps support it in the editing world.

I wont buy AMD, I have been building computers for over 20 years and the only part that has ever failed me was the only ATI/AMD part I bought, a HD 4870. I did contemplate a 3700X when they were first talked about but that didn't last long.

Anyway thanks for the reply, my current rig is still kicking butt, so I might wait and see when the 10 series comes out if the 9900k drops in price.

Whether your team blue or red, one thing is certain: you cant go wrong with a Gigabyte mobo. They just make good boards. I currently use an Aorus elite, albeit on a 3900x and not an intel, and it's quite good.

Thanks Doc, that is all I wanted to hear, the 10 USB ports on the back first drew me to the boards and I liked the benchmarks I watched since, so its good to hear another user happy with the board.

My 7700k and Maximus formula ix both went this week. Debating what to do. I had coverage in then so I get about 760 in credit to spend or put towards something else. I'm getting the same board for sure and was going to go 9700k but I'm open for others convincing.

Have an aorus 2080ti when I upgraded flmy 1080. Been with Asus ROG for awhile. Time to just mix it up.
