boedha68 Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 I fly DCS for years now and in VR. Constant tweaking things for better performance. Saving money for the better. Yesterday on the webshop the 9900KS was € 100,00 off. From € 600,00 for € 500,00. That was more then black friday!?! So that was step 1. Upgrade or buy a new system. The second one! :D So the case... BitMaster Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Post some fps before and after. There are threads in here that could use that info pretty well ! BTW, what's the cooler ? Some have pushed the KS to 5.4G stable with DIY loops. Most do 5.3G with a decent AIO. xoxen Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 (edited) Congrats to the new system. I can fully understand your excitement. I´m very interested in the result, as my CPU is very close to yours and the GPU also is not that far away. I´m thinking about an upgrade by myself and also have the 9900KS in my focus. I´m runnig 3x27" WQHD displays which makes my mission difficult. My GPU already is at 99%, so I fear a CPU upgrade does not raise my FPS. Where is your GPU when running your actual config? I check this with MSI Afterburner. boedha68 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 The new system is complete. No overclock yet. :D Old system: CPU: I7-4770K (overclocked 4.5 GHz) Cooler: Be quit dark rock Mem: 24 GB DDR3 1600MHZ GPU: RTX 2080 (overclocked 1950Mhz) Ssd: samsung 860EVO New system: CPU: I9-9900KS (5.0 GHz) Cooler: Corsair H150 Pro RGB Mem: 32 GB DDR4 3200MHZ GPU: RTX 2080 (overclocked 1950Mhz) SSD: Samsung 970EVO. First untweaked results with the HP Reverb.(VR is very heavy on your system) I used the same mission in persian gulf on both PC's. (max settings) old results > new results on carrier: 35 FPS > 45 FPS on air above sea: 45 FPS > 55 FPS above heavy scenery: 29 FPS > 39 FPS First results: The new system is in DCS about 25% better results as the old one. NB: In a other game that completely is optimized was the result about 35% better. Jumped from 130 FPS to 180 FPS. Most differences was the much lower noise from fans in the computercase. Much more speed on boot and loading DCS. I'll hope this impressions will help anyone. Now the waiting for the 2080TI Killer graphics card. :D Newest system: AMD 9800X3d, Kingsting 128 GBDDR5, MSI RTX 5090(ready for buying), Corsair 150 Pro, 3xSamsung 970 Pro, Logitech X-56 HOTAS, Pimax Crystal Light (Super is purchased) ASUS 1200 Watt. xoxen Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Great, thanks for sharing. This gives me an idea on what a CPU upgrade is capable to do. Do you have an idea what the usage of your GPU was before and after. This would be very helpful for me to take a decision on my upgrade plans. Thanks again and much fun with your new rocket :smilewink: P.S.: The HP Reverb also was on my list but a new CPU with Board and RAM AND a VR device will kill my wallet. Well I can reccomend you the reverb heavy! It's a total different situation from screens, you won't regret this. The system you have is similar to my old system. You see things you've never seen before and worth any penny! :D And don't forget i have all the settings maxed out, so when you set your settings lower you have good FPS. xoxen Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Hi Xoxen I have almost the same spec’s so been sitting on the ‘upgrade fence’ for awhile now! Interested to see the difference/improvements. Hi Bluethornton, actually I´m investigating if a CPU upgrade will bring extra performance. I have some doubts about it as my GPU runs with 100% already. What I learned so far the GPU seems to be the bottleneck showing this high load. But a RTX 2080Ti is out of reach for me and with my very high resolution I need the VRAM of 11GB. That´s why I bought the GTX 1080Ti which gave me 25% performance gain over a GTX 1070 (which also ran at 100% load). Without answering this question I will hold my money a little longer. Saying this you shouldn´t expect something from my side too soon :smilewink: Xoxen AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus, 64GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600 CL16, Asus TUF Gaming RTX 4080 OC, Windows 11 64bit Home Premium, TrackIR 5 with TrackClip: Pro!, Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base + TM Warthog Stick + 7cm extension + WINWING Orion 2 with F-15EX grips, Cougar MFDs with 8" displays, Saitek Rudder Pedals, Samsung Odyssey G9 49" 5120x1440 @120 Hz
