JonVFX Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Hey Guys, First off I must apologize to all the friendlies I have shot down by mistake recently. I am finding the latest changes to the the Viper IFF hard to adjust to. The Radar scans red icons for unknown which makes me think that they are enemies, and even when I scan them it doesn't always show a (4) which makes me think that they are definitely on the other team. Very frustrating because the viper is a recent purchase, and I never had this issue with flying the f15 or the J11/su27. It may well be more accurate in sim but ffs, it is so frustrating, and I have noticed a large rise in the number of friendly fire issues. So so many. It spoils the fun. Ringo.
Harker Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Sounds good like you moved from FC3 aircraft to your first full fidelity one. Congrats on that! Now, the thing to understand is that FC3 aircraft have a lot of systems that are "magic", meaning that stuff is done automatically and cannot fail. In reality, IFF can often be unreliable, it might take more than one interrogation for a friendly reply and if the friendly aircraft has their IFF transponder off, damaged or improperly set up, they also won't transmit a positive reply. This is why visual ID is still important and used, even today. The above is simulated in DCS, to an extent. Regarding getting red icons from the datalink (that indicate hostiles) that turn out to be friendlies, this can happen if contributors in the datalink have marked that contact as hostile for some reason or it's a matter of the system being WIP, especially for multiplayer. I haven't played MP much lately, so I'm not sure if there's a bug or it's just a matter of false identification. Normally, a negative IFF response shouldn't automatically mean that an aircraft is hostile. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. LazyBoot Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Oh, there's certainly something not right going on https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=257305
Oceandar Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 The IFF seems fine. The broken one is Viper DL as reported in the link above. Do not rely on red triangle from DL right now, you need to IFF to make sure its enemy before firing. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
