I am sad, and while ED definitely deserves a holiday break, at the same time I'm a bit baffled that an entire company can basically take 1 month off per year. At least in the uncivilized bit of the first world I live in I catch hell for taking a week off. And my understanding is that its the 31st of dec through jan7 where the 2 holidays are. Last hotfix was on the 20th IIRC.

I wish they would at least push out a hotfix for the RWR and a few other issues that other devs have fixed.

I feel your bafflement, but a California based defense contractor that I used to do business with took the whole month of December off every year. They had a skeleton crew in the plant to continue logistics support for their Government customers, but everybody else was off on a paid vacation. I was sad because I had to work through the holidays (I was supporting two radar systems deployed to Afghanistan), but those company guys had it good.

Our ancestors in Western Europe used to have nearly a third if the year off in Holy-days throughout the liturgical year. Christmas stretched from the beginning of December through to the eve of Candlemas which was 40 days after Christmas Day. It’s only been since the reformation (15th - 16th century) and the rise of capitalism that these holidays have been so drastically cut down. Russian Orthodoxy seems to regard Epiphany on the 6th Jan as the big day of celebration. Our western capitalist society is fairly unique in the history of human civilisation with its ethic of industriousness and hard-busy work as almost religious virtues, and a rationalistic emphasis upon getting the greatest efficient output from the human component: you suspect the machine would put us to work 24/7 if it could. I especially feel sorry for you guys in the states. When I was over in California and Arizona I couldn’t believe how short you holidays were. Sorry about tge sermon, I am a Church if Engkand cleric and I do this stuff for a living. Still, I get tge feeling tge expected updates are soon coming.

No worries. Technically I got 2 paid days off for Xmass and New years day. So, a month seems rather luxurious. But I'm quite familiar with vacation culture in Europe. On the plus side, I'm also familiar with the worked to death culture in Asia, so the US could be worse.

It really depends if you love your job. I've sometimes forgone holidays cuz I wanted to continue working on a pet project at work. I'd live at the office if the boss didn't make me go home XD.
