S77th-konkussion Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 You just never learn- do you Haj? Be interesting to see what kind of leniency you're shown- for the 50th time. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
D-Scythe Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 The Belgrade Aviation Museum Wow, you're so cool!
nscode Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It's really a great museum... everyone should visit it if they can :D No, now seriously, the museum holds many historical aircraft. Some of them are the only remaining of their kind. It also is the only place you can see parts of a shut down F-117 (and it's not the only such exhibition there, there's the F-16 :D, but also torn migs, galebs, and others). And now when F117 is retired it would be nice if the museum could get one whole thing :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Pilotasso Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Nothing wrong with museums. Though the message closer to the top of this page is not intended to be directed at the museum itself... .
nscode Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 You don't say :D Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Azrayen Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hi Thanks for the news :) And now when F117 is retired it would be nice if the museum could get one whole thing :) Mhmm... I'm a little doubtful on that ;) Cheers Az' PS : By the way, since the forum reorganisation, there is a Military and Aviation room, for the subjects not strickly relative to the sim. My two cents... ;)
SoaringEagle74 Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Yeah, I am doubtful too. I think the US government put way too much effort into F117 to simply just abandon it after a decade. Off course it could simply be a ploy to confuse nations and keep hostile nations off guard or perhaps they are going to evolve the original model into something better. Actually, I don't think they even needed this stealth fighter to begin with since F-22's and F-18's were and are more then capable of filling its role but you know US 'overkill' mentality...keep industry and research going full speed!

No ploy at all, it is gone for sure. http://www.holloman.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123044456 To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. GGTharos Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Yep, it'll be replaced by the F-35. The F-117 is far less capable; and in some cases, the F-22 will do right for the job also (like 60nm SDB launches) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

The real problem of having a full F-117 in a Serb museum is not even political, is that it probably would end up in Moscow to help developing the PAK-FA just like the downed F-117 wrekage was. Even being an older design, looking at F-117 coating design secrets could help the russians improve one that could give serious problems to previous generation fighters in tracking such a plane. Imagine that hardware ending up in regions with ongoing arms race. .
muamshai Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I want one. I can wear chicken suite if I have to :D This space is available for your advertisement

Even being an older design, looking at F-117 coating design secrets could help the russians improve one that could give serious problems to previous generation fighters in tracking such a plane. Imagine that hardware ending up in regions with ongoing arms race. Going "full stealth" involves much more than just giving it a radar absorbing coating. The geometry of the plane itself is very important so whatever radiation escapes absorption gets deflected away from the emitter rather than back to it. Other factors that make a plane(or whatever object) stealth are low sound emissions and a low infrared signature. Technically speaking when we say stealth we mean 'can only be detected at short range'...whatever that may be!

v1per Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 Looks like I better grab the camera and go down to Andrews AFB to see if they still have some there.
