takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 (edited) As long the AWACS doesn't provide enemy contacts via Link16 you need a 2 factor IFF identification to make sure the unknown contact is hostile. Even with the AWACS you need a 2 factor ID, but AWACS will be one, your radar the other. Unfortunately we can't see what is going on on the radar b-scope. Have you Mode4-ed them? Did other donor in your datalink M4-ed them? I would recommend watching another IFF tutorial. Like this one: Edited January 21, 2020 by takamba DCS Rafale - please
takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Sorry dude, I am just trying to help. From your post alone, no one could know what you already know about IFF and Mode4. NCTR works only below 25nm. Meaning, if you are the only aircraft to identify the enemy, you will only be sure if it is hostile below 25nm. DCS Rafale - please
takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Sometimes pressing SCS depress for a Mode4 interrogation is not enough, when you are the only aircraft identifying the bandit. The target aircraft has to be closer then 25nm and less then 30 degrees aspect hot or cold. The aircraft you want to identify has a greater aspect, so NCTR is not working. DCS Rafale - please
takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Yes, but its aspect is out of parameters for the NCTR to be able to identify the engine modulation. DCS Rafale - please
takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 To identify an unknown contact without AWACS and without other donors in the datalink, you need to do the 2-factor identification by yourself. You need to have a rejected Mode4 interrogation and the NCTR engine modulation read out. Then the contact will turn red on the SA page and is fully identified. DCS Rafale - please
takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 As soon as you STT-locked the bandit and he was in NCTR parameters, it turned red. Do the same again, but put the bandit in STT lock right after you Mode4-ed it. NCTR needs a STT lock to work. DCS Rafale - please
Cytarabine Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Okay so looking at his contrail you definitely do not have a nose hot aspect from him, thus you cannot look down his intakes to get an NCTR recognition and thus cannot identify him as foe. To classify a bogey as hostile you need to have 2 of; - Lack of Mode 4 response (thus a hostile Mode 4 response) - NCTR identification classifies as a hostile aircraft - Other donor on the datalink classifies as hostile or - PLID as hostile (though then it is all on you) So to ID in an environment where you lack donors you need to; - Place target under cursor in radar - Sensor select depress --> IFF interrogate --> if no response you have 1 out of 2 - Get nose hot aspect from bandit within 24nm --> NCTR --> if hostile airframe --> hostile Until then it is unknown. In future when there is air-to-air with the targeting pod it might be more useful as you could visually identify the aircraft type in situations where NCTR does not work (such as this) and then classify them as hostile yourself using the PLID button on the SA page.
dorianR666 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 the enemy aircraft must be properly oriented relative to you, if you want to perform NCTR either flying directly towards you or directly from you, so your radar can see the engine compressor blades. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X GPU: AMD RX 580
Cytarabine Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 At this time I also pressed "depress" Once again you are at an oblique aspect where NCTR cannot look down the intakes to the compressors and thus cannot get an ID.
