Hi, we know STT focuses radar energy on a single target lock but are there any fundamental differences between RWS SPT/DTT and TWS SPT/DTT? Thks

RWS can only track a single target.

 

RWS 1st designate: track bugged target but keep scanning

 

RWS 2nd designate: STT mode. RADAR stops scanning and tracks selected target. All other contacts lost.

 

TWS 1st designate: designate as first target (STT), but TWS continues tracking other targets

 

TWS 2nd designate (SAME TARGET): RADAR tracks only one target, others lost

 

TWS 2nd designate (DIFFERENT TARGET): Enters DTT mode. Tracks two bugged targets and other targets. Allows firing of two SD-10 at two different targets simultaneously.

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

I think you got some things wrong there, also I wasn't talking about STT :)

TWS can bug TWO targets, but if you double-designate a single target it still then only tracks one target exclusively, same in RWS mode.

Sorry I think you misunderstood the question. I understand what you are saying but that’s not my question. RWS can bug two different targets just like TWS. Have you tried it? I am not talking about double designating to get STT. This is before STT.

I don't think there is any difference in the tracked targets themselves. The main difference is TWS maintains track files on the non-bugged targets whereas RWS does not.

 

Yeah, it's the same radar after all isn't it? Just the difference in how it's used and how the contacts are presented.

 

In the Hornet, I can see that I would use TWS for multiple target launches since its RWS doesn't support that. But in the JF-17, it would seem TWS has not a lot of advantage over RWS at the moment.

Well TWS has smaller scan zone and less bar overlap to make up for fewer bars. So that would mean if you don’t care so much about seeing people far away from the two people you need to track or the two people you are tracking are close together, TWS should give you faster updates right? And RWS gives more bars which are closer together and larger azimuth range, if it’s update rate is slower it can’t be much more stable, but I guess the advantage is situational awareness?

Just as confused as all of you!
