AvgWhiteGuy Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Is there any recent (last year or 2) documentation for the Mission Editor? I see Scripting and other notes but nothing on the core program other than a PDF I got with the A-10 years ago. This program is brilliant but a little complex as well without some more finite docs to support. I also see some great YT video tutorials but they are rather specific or overly complicated when I just want to understand some basic concepts. Ex: How to start an AI flight after XXX seconds of taking ownership of my A/C? I solve it by using a trigger argument ON TAKE CONTROL > PLAYER SCORES LESS THAN(FLAG) but have no idea whether this is the correct or best way to accomplish. Can anybody point me to some updated docs for this? Appreciate the assistance... feefifofum Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 1 ONCE, NO EVENT -> UNIT ALIVE (Player) -> FLAG ON (1). 1 ONCE, NO EVENT -> TIME SINCE FLAG (1, XXX) -> GROUP ACTIVATE (Bandit) As you've noted, it's complicated...there is no fast, easy document or video that explains how to do exactly what you're trying to do. Your best bet is to get in there and experiment. When you hit a roadblock, consult the manual on specific functions or ask a question here. THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Pikey Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 The docs in your install are still valid - the DCS World manual. There's a couple of things that have changed (plus the images are dated) but I reread them every year or so and still find them enlightning. The bad thing... the docs are still the same and valid because not much has changed. The documentaiton is absolutely fine in my opinion. It's slightly complex but only when you do slightly complex things. The YT vids to me are a bit basic. I mean, if you can work out how to fly an A-10C from a manual you would think the ME was a cinch. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
AvgWhiteGuy Posted February 8, 2020 Author Posted February 8, 2020 (edited) I thank you both for your responses, I'll drag on and read, re-read and then experiment before I re-re-read. I personally think it sucks as both a guide or reference but WTF...if DCS had a better 'manual' we would probably have a lot more missions & campaigns. I now appreciate the effort and time members of the community have spent building missions. This program is pretty amazing at what can be done IF you grasp the concepts and have a good plan. Funny thing is that in building the mission (and tweaking it) when you're finally done there is no surprises for you in the flight(s). We need a more active group of mission builders but there needs to be some incentives; it would be good for the community and DCS. One suggestion I would have is to be able to name your flags like we name an Event, this number shit just adds unnecessary complications and hard to identify references. Coming from a bunch of very talented software guys/gals, you would think they should appreciate that us mere mortals are not as capable in the logic and assembly of events. Again, thanks for your responses, I'm sure I'll be reaching out for more AFTER I re-read Cheers, Edited February 8, 2020 by AvgWhiteGuy clarity Asus B85 Pro Gamer - 32GB - Intel® Core i5-4460 CPU - SanDisk SDSSDXPS480G -Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 TrackIR5 - TM Warthog HOTAS Stick & Throttle - TM Cougar MFCDs - TM TPR Rudder Pedals - Razer Orbweaver - SoundBlasterX G5 DAC
