Well, if your interest is in a Russia/NATO confrontation, then you are in a counter-factual setting already, so I suppose anything goes. :) I think many users are looking forward to the Ka-50 to model operations based on actual Soviet and Russian experience in Afghanistan and the multiple post-USSR conflicts in the region (that's almost 30 years of actual war material to go on!). As such, the Ka-50 fits like a glove. Remeber, the Ka-50 has actually been in service since the mid-90s and has flown in anger over Chechnya. As britgliderpiot mentioned, the campaigns are still in development, but I suppose both scenarios will be available, if not from ED, then from the community for sure.

Don't forget the armoring, while not as advanced as on the Mi-28 (ceramic composite), it still offers 23mm protection to the cockpit, and 12.7mm Soviet to the side glazing. As is the extraction system, no matter what excuse you use, the pilot is the most expensive part of any helicopter, crash attenuation alone sometimes won't do (battle damage).

True. The Ka-50 offered many innovations, including the pilot ejection system, the gun mount and the very idea of a single-seat, dual-rotor attack helicopter. By Soviet standards of the time, the avionics are actually very complex for a helicopter. They are simply not complex enough by today's standards.
