G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 been busy this week and put together my new heli chair, with collective and adjustable tray for the stick. also i will show a few pics of my rfactor gearbox i made recently. the collective connects via a removable lead to the wires that used to go to the sllider wheel on the usb combatstick 586, check it out. the chair naked stick and collective mounted only side on pic i got of actual collective adjustable tray for stick, with pitch, yaw and altitude control, but no roll more to come...
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 right side view of tray angle with collective full up socket for removable lead to collective wired to combatsticks slider/throttle a look at the collective removed from the chair bracket. in full down position
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 in the fully up position a look at the 250k linear pot used for the axis, and the plug socket the counterweight is just another piece of pipe, adjustable for when i install a button box gearbox next...
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 mounted on the bench top view in 7th close up of polycarbonate shift plate side view showing clamping mechanism
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 shifting up/forwards, top cam moves over centre notch to lock into gear reverse, now the bottom cam moves, this controls neutral position neutral rear view, note bottom cam centre. switch mechanisms, in 3rd gear
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 switch mechs close up in neutral close up switch mechs in 6th, top cam over centre to the rear. the gearbox is rock solid and shifts perfectly, tough as, feels right, wants to go back to neutral, and locks itself into gear, the collective makes flying a heli so much better. overall i am happy with the chair for now, hope you enjoyed my show and tell, ggg
leafer Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007  Niiiice... You did the welding yourself? ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
urze Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Incredible! Last week I told Groove that I would make a bypass to a collective witch The "throttle of the CH Fighterstick And now I see the pictures! Leftside Limited - ideas and solutions
Nordic Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Nice and clean- i like it. Are you going to add a button box to your collective?
G3 Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 thanks for the kind words guys leafer: no i am not the welder, i let my mate do that part, he does it all day, horses for courses and i can't weld :) i did all the design and fabrication apart from the welding. the collective and gearbox were only designed on the go, neither were meant to be the final product but they both turned pretty sweet. urze: a bypass is easy, the plug i used can disconnect the original throttle when you plug in the lead to your external device of choice:thumbup: nordic: definitely going to add a button box of some sort, i have been hunting for pics of the end of the handle but not much luck, i saw it in the new startup video but i want some good pics to reference. i left some length on the counterweight end of the shaft to eventually allow for the weight of the button box. have been flying heli's in fsx for practice, its been said before but god help us when its time to fly and fight :D also just like to say a big thumbs up to bob church from CH-products forum for some technical assistance.
Triggerhappy69 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 all I can say is... WOW..! .. I just love it whenever I see something complex and apparently difficult to make, comes together as simple and clean as this..! My hat goes of for you mate..! Good design, well made and most of all it seems to take the stressload of frantic "gaming"..! I especially like the way you worked out the angles of the bellkranc's for the collective.. "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
G3 Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 cheers triggerhappy69, was unfamiliar with the terminology of bellcrank but google tells me you mean the connecting rod or conrod/crankshaft as i call it, connecting the shaft to the pot, notice i used a volume knob, as i needed something with the same spline as the pot :) yes its simple and solid, built to take a pounding and constant abuse  the 7-speed gearbox is the same, would love to see someone slam a g-25 like i do mine, they would be picking up the pieces and wiping the tears :D (nice wheel, shifter could have been better imho) also the satisfaction of creating your own peripherals is something. i basically just held the shaft in the half up/down position and made a rod line up with the centre of the crank arm, then worked out how far i need to mount it back from the collectives shaft pivot point to get the desired travel, and it worked out approx 100 degrees. admittedly the first dummy shaft had a few extra holes in it:music_whistling:
