Hi,

With all of the great expectaions and development of the DCS projects I feel that an upgrade is also needed in my PC, and external Video extensions.

I am currently building a new "Super" PC that can handle quite a bit multitasking. I find that with my current PC-hardwear, comparitive to what some guys/girls have, my stuff is quite just a bit lower tec.

So here are some questions for you guys.

1. Should I use Tracker-IR- I do not use it, never have concluded a benifit of using it. What are the benifits, advantages, disadvantages?

2. Can u use 2 Digital projectors and seperate there field of view so that one projector shows your left of 12oclock and right of 12oclock- with a custom projection screen that represents a half circle infront of you so the projections come to your true left and true right?

3. Is there also a way of stretching the current field of view from the normal cockpit view to full 180" or more?

I know it would help if i could tell you what kind of Vid cards I have and Mother board but right now my bud is building it. As far as I know-Dual vid cards, and dual-core. I will get more info this week.

Thanks,

1: yes, track IR is a must. Thank about it, all you have to do is move your head, just as you would IRL!

2: I don't quite understand...

3: well, i wouldn't like that my self, but as far as I know, no.

this was mainly to answer your Track IR question. If your going to spend money on a new PC, then $150 won't hurt you too much. I got it a year ago, i loved it within a week and can't imagine lockon (or any sim) without it.

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

TrackIR is a must have. It really adds to the suspension of disbelief. The only thing more natural than it would be if you have image projected all around you where you actually have to crane your neck to look behind. Until then, nothing beats TrackIR.

I had TrackIR 1 and loved it.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

As far as useing 2 monitors or projectors to widen your vision? If I remember correctly Lock On didn't support this feature. But I think that you can make it work by useing a Dual or Triple Head Converter .. http://www.adorama.com/VDMRTH2G.html?sid=11969090021380285

As far as DCS I think that it might be a little to soon to tell.. But maybe this will be expanded on when the new engine is completed???

disclaimer:

firstly, all my answers are based on lofc 1.12a, i have no idea if there have been changes in DCS, at a guess i would say its the same or similar until we see the new game engine.

1.trackir = its a definite, also a cheap webcam alternative if you are handy.

(if you never thought of it as beneficial then you havent used one :)

2. yes 2 projectors are easily spanned thru windows and then the appropriate aspect ratio and resolution has to be set thru the configs.

3. the maximun "stable" fov i could achieve was 175' , anything higher and the game became unpredictable, crashing, locking up etc.

this also needs to be edited thru the view or server file, its been a while sorry. this has been discussed in depth at the old lockon ru forums, try an advanced search using my name and 'span' as the key word,

should give you a bit to read:thumbup:

Do you mean project from the other side of the screens so that the screens are between you and the projectors - meaning the images have to be flipped left to right for them to be the correct way around when you view them ?

That would be a nice way to do it - but wouldn't you be better off with 3 screens - with the joints about where the cockpit pilllars/frames fall in a real aircraft (keep the joint off the HUD ...)

Cheers.

Well Im hopeing that that the 2 projectors will make up the distance. The Projectors will be behind me over my head. The current projector I have is realy nice, I dont use it for LOMAC but im contemplating this due to my new project. You can change the aspect ratio and all sorts of stuff from the projector alone. Ill just need to experiment and get info from you guys.

Hi

I can take still pictures with the projector.

Its realy nice so far, but Im going to wait untill Santa comes he brings me at least $200. worth of Best Buy gift cards, which will be used for number 2 projector.

The last one I got was a steal, I had $250. in gift cards and there was an instant rebate of $175. I payed $300 and some change for it. Ill get some screen shots and Pics this week end.

Thanks for your time,
