leafer Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 My monitor has become paper weight and I'm shopping for a new monitor. 1. Which brand is the best bang for the buck? They only have BenQ and Acer around this part of the boonie. The rest has to be special order. 2. Response time of 8 is too slow or is it all right for simming? I do not play FPS. 3. I read that image quality (sharpness?) is still not equal to CRT so how bad is it? Can't think of anything else but if there are other things I should be looking for when shopping for LCD then please let me know. Or should I just stick with CRT? ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Iiyama lcd's are very very good (I mean 19"). Those have a good reputation but are little more expensive then Samsung or Sony. But technology goes on. LCD are not far from that these days. Their prices drop, it takes less place, screen is sharper, just don't know how it works for eyes' health.

If you have more money buy SVA matrix, obligatorily DVI, the time reaction about 5 should be good, I have now 2ms and don't see any streakings (I play FPS, COD4, HL2 ect). Image quality is much better than CRT only if you play in your native resolution. To play this you have to have good GPU. If you don't have you won't play smooth example in Crysis in native resolution... If I were you I would buy LCD above 20" in full HD 1980x1080 (in full HD is rather 22" or 24"). Now I play in native 1680x1050 in FC and it looks beautiful. Check sites which are dedicated LCD monitors, tests ect. Good purchase! Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make...
