DW2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Is it possible for DCS to run with the terrains on a portable USB3 drive rather than on the main system partition?
David OC Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 You could possibly symlink to a folder on a different drive. An external usb drive is WAY to slow to copy from tho. Consider adding an extra SSD drive if you can, much quick to load from. Are you using an SSD drive now? i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. donkeyrider Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 I don't think you want to do this. I'd imagine the stuttering will be terrible. I agree with David that adding an extra SSD drive is the way to go.
MAXsenna Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Not to be a smartass, but any type of drive, SSDs included, can be portable. Just sayin'... Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk

So you'll also need power, not easy portable. 600 MB/s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#SATA_revision_3.0_(6_Gbit/s,_600_MB/s,_Serial_ATA-600) i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. DW2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Author Posted March 27, 2020 Extra SSD it is then by the looks of it. Cheers guys!

Anybody that've tested running over SAN or 10Gbps network drives? Just when I got into DCS I had moved and put all my computer labs stuff in storage. Well, I guess I'll get it out for testing in the summer. Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
