Chuck guide (updated 27/3) and SUPER S530D missile employment

Hi!

I'm using both excellents official M2000 manual (/doc folder) and Chuck's guide (link) and I have some questions about them:

In p.129 of Chuck's guide it says:

8. Detect target using vertical antenna and radar range controls Radar will be in

RWS (Range While Scan) mode

9. Put TDC on designated target ( J, K, L) and lock it by using the TDC DEPRESS

control Target will have a square on it on the HUD and radar will enter TWS

(Track While Scan) mode

10. Manoeuver the aircraft to put the circle shown on the HUD on the square

11. Lock your missile seeker head to the radar lock by using TDC DEPRESS control

once circle and square are aligned Radar will enter STT (Single Target Track)

mode

12. Fire missile (Press and hold Weapon Fire key for at least 2 seconds, SPACE by

default) when missile is within KILL (no escape) range

13. Once missile is fired, the engine RPM will automatically decrease to prevent an

engine flameout, which could be caused by ingestion of the smoke released by

the missile launch RPM will increase back to normal values a few seconds later

14. Maintain radar lock for as long as the missile is in the air the Super S 530 will be

guided by your radar As soon as you lose lock, the missile will stop tracking the

target

15. You can unlock target with the HOTAS Weapons System CMD switch DEPRESSED

on the stick

Is step 10 necessary?

In step 11 it presses TDC DEPRESS again (it was already done in step 9). Is this really how it works? I understand you just need to switch to STT using the STT/TWS

Toggle command. Also, as far as I know, the missile can be launched in TWS mode, it will just take a little more time because the radar will automatically switch to STT mode (according to the official manual, p.245)

Yep, there is a little bit of misunderstanding here.

Square inside the circle is for optimal kinematic, you doesn’t need that for seeker head to synchronise with STT target.

And yes, the radar will automatically switch from TWS to STT if you shoot from TWS.

Be careful for high performance long range shot (plus/ minus 20Nm), the target may engage ECM when the radar perform STT and may break the lock just after Super 530D firing :joystick:

I think the guide is not up to date to the latest updates on the mirage.

Sep 10 is not necessary as you said.

Step 11 is how it worked previously, and what you said it mostly how it's done.

Just to be sure your understanding is correct, the missiles are not launched in TWS/PID, if you press the release button in TWS/PID, the radar will switch to STT/PIC and then fire the missile.

In fact, in the guide it seems to refer to the big square (locked radar target), not the little one (IFD - Interception Flight Director). Either way, not needed.

Good advice! thanks!

Yes, that's it. The radar switches to STT authomatically (it needs a little more time, as described in the p.245 of the official manual).

Thanks!
