DCS Newbie FPS stutter question

My game's having a major stutter issue every couple seconds where my screen locks up and otherwise buttery FPS drops it like its hot before picking it up like nothing happened, and then freezing again a few seconds later.. I've messed with so many settings and can't figure it out.

Both 2.5.5 and 2.5.6 do this. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

THANKS! I owe you a beer! I wish that "disable hot plug" sticky just above my post also had "fix stutter and dropped FPS" in its title!

 

My USB headphones had been freezing DCS until I did this fix too.
