G3 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 please see my second post for some questions i have about mission making, thanks. after months of no air time due to various reasons i finally sat down the other night for an extended session in the mission editor and managed to get fairly comfortable creating missions, albeit basic ones. i am amazed at how complex some of the downloaded missions i have tried are, they must have taken quite some time and consideration in the planning, getting everything to happen when it is supposed to etc. my missions are a far cry from the serious mission builders efforts. so far just with simple take off, attack and land if you survive kind of thing. enough for us to have some fun. my son and i have been trying them out and we are having a ball doing so. love gaming with my young bloke, just have to get him into the trackir, he doesn't like it yet :) but i'm sure he will come around. just wanted to share the fact that after all this time i found its not so hard to create your own missions with a little bit of learning time spent in the mission editor. and i am especially excited as its the first bit of flying i have done in ages, flying our own custom missions and most importantly: enjoying it with my son . if you have some time give it a go and try building a mission or 2 yourself.
G3 Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 help needed please, mission makers. after another night of mission making i now i have a few questions: when telling a client plane to takeoff from the runway, why does the plane appear in the parking lot and not on the runway, it needs to be spooled up and everything? even though it says type = take off, action = from runway. cannot get the bombers to target the enemy runway, i put the attack icon over the runway, and make the task = pinpoint strike or runway attack, and load em up with bombs, they just fly over and go home? must be overlooking something?
Weta43 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Have you specifically set the runway as a target, or just put the attack waypoint over the runway ? if so - put the attack waypoint some km off from the runway, select that waypoint, then use the targeting page to add the runway as a target (& use the 'mission goal' button to add fail/succeed conditions) Cheers.
Ironhand Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 ... when telling a client plane to takeoff from the runway, why does the plane appear in the parking lot... All client aircraft set to "take off" will start on the apron regardless of whether you designate that as the starting place or not. If several players join the mission and spawn at the same time, there is less likelihood of one aircraft spawning on top of the other because all the apron slots are available for aircraft. The end of the runway is far less forgiving. cannot get the bombers to target the enemy runway, i put the attack icon over the runway, and make the task = pinpoint strike or runway attack, and load em up with bombs, they just fly over and go home? Here's a sample mission I created for someone having similar difficulties: Bombing 101. The Russian aircraft is set up to take out the runway. Note that the runway icon is used as the target designator. The AmFor aircraft is set to simply bomb an airbase target. Hopefully you'll find this sample mission helpful. G3 Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 thanks team, got the bombing worked out now, also the mission was of great help. there goes the next few hours :D as for the takeoff, i am sure one mission i made, the client took off from the end of the strip engines running, but i couldn't seem to make it happen again, maybe i was dreaming. not that i mind the startup procedure, just trying to save some time while learning the finer points of mission building :)
Ironhand Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 ...just trying to save some time while learning the finer points of mission building. Start in the air? as for the takeoff, i am sure one mission i made, the client took off from the end of the strip engines running, I think that was true of V1.02. I keep forgetting that because I seldom fly it these days. G3 Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 ok start in the air, overlooked the obvious. strangely enough i just flew a homemade mission then in 1.12a, me vs 1 ai, both took off from runway, weird. another question, forgive me if these things have been asked a million times before: what is the default password for the server, why does it change and where is it set? after stopping and then restarting the server, sometimes there is a password, but its not mine and clients cannot join, pretty sure thats the story.

Duh! I'm a dolt. I blame it on the long hours I've been working and a general lack of sleep. If you have more than one aircraft starting at the same base, you will start on the tarmac regardless of where you selected to start in the ACTION box. If there is only a single aircraft, you will start on the runway, if that is what you chose. what is the default password for the server, why does it change and where is it set? after stopping and then restarting the server, sometimes there is a password, but its not mine and clients cannot join, pretty sure thats the story. Do you mean when you are the server? AFAIK, you set it in the PASS box. It's on the Network screen when you click the SERVER button. I've never done it myself, though. Or, if you are the client, you'd enter it in the same box on the CLIENT screen. If you are talking about other servers, I doubt there's a default. Each server admin would select his own. G3 Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 rich, you are a wealth of knowledge so don't be so hard on yourself :) talking about lack of sleep, mission building has got me bad :) ok thats what it was, when i had more than one client per base we were in the parking lot, with only one client it was on the runway. as for the server: running lockon on a seperate pc in server mode. 2 lan clients and others joining over the net. i set the password in pass box but i swear it changes when i exit and restart the server. i better check this later, otherwise i will be the "dolt" i "assumed" you maybe able to predefine the password, like in touch-buddy cfg for its server/client passwords. thanks again for the help , enjoying myself immensely.

Okay. I'm not sure what's going on there, but let me ask you this. Why are you using a password at all? The way you have it set up, don't you have to invite people to join? They don't know that you're there unless you invite them. And if you're using HyperLobby to host, IIRC, you password the lobby in HyperLobby and not the mission in the sim. G3 Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 just habit i guess when running servers i always put a password. in this case it does seem like overkill. as for hyperlobby, is there a good tutorial out there for it? am sure i have seen one ages ago, but it escapes me. disregard above, i just downloaded latest version 3.9.111 and it has lots of info included. the questions keep coming: do all players get the settings from the server?, such as graphic details and view restrictions configured in the servers own gui options menu. sorry, i have much to learn.
Ironhand Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 ... do all players get the settings from the server?, such as graphic details and view restrictions configured in the servers own gui options menu... The short answer is, yes. Not all server settings are forced on the player. View restrictions and the other Difficulty settings certainly are. And graphic details that influence what the player is able to see or spot. For instance, the Scene setting is forced.
