Light_has_come Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Hello everyone, I recently discovered the world of VR flight sims and I am absolutely loving it. I’m ready to drop some serious bean and buy some expensive gear. I’ve read many of the extremely helpful reviews on this site and I have a few questions. Right now I really enjoy ED and DCS World (currently flying a hornet with more to come) although I’m sure I will play other VR flight sims like IL2 as well. My current plan (open to criticism) is to buy the VKB Kosmosima for my right hand, a Thrustmaster FCS Hotas for the left, and MFG crosswind pedals. My left hand will use the TWCS throttle for DCS and the T16000M stick for ED dual stick. The second stick is perhaps not entirely necessary with the MFG Crosswinds but I can get it for $40 extra with the throttle. My thinking is that the thrustmaster is a cheap option to get me both dual stick and a throttle for now but could be upgraded in the future. The crosswinds and Kosmosima would be permanent though. I considered Virpil products (especially because their mounts are cheaper) but it seems their stuff is rarely in stock. Anyway, here are my questions: 1. How do you guys feel about stick extensions? 10mm? 20mm? Are all extensions best center mounted or can you do the 10mm side mounted? In competitive FPS games I’ve always been a huge believer in large mousepads and low sensitivity which is the same concept as an extension I believe. Larger range of motion= more accuracy. 2. Mounting? This is where I honestly don’t know what to do. Ergonomics is fairly important to me as I have a chronic neck condition and additional tension in my shoulders would be bad. I would like to get a desk mount so I have the option to use an extension with my Kosmosima. However, they are a lot more expensive than I thought ($120ish) and if I mount the stick I’m assuming it would be awkward to leave the throttle and left stick on my desk. So if I bought mounts for them it would be an additional ($240) which is far more than the FCS is worth. I could just buy one extra mount if there was a way to easily swap the throttle/stick from the left side as I wouldn’t need both at the same time. Also, VKB mount or Monstertech? Or something else? DIY did occur to me but I don’t have a ton of experience and I’m suspicious it would end up being more hassle than it’s worth. 3. Lube? I’ve heard that the TWCS really needs some, specifically nyogel 767a. I live in Canada and it doesn’t seem super easy to get a hold of. Is there an easy equivalent? How much would I need? Would a 10g tube be enough? 4. How easy is it to use the toe brakes without activating YAW on the pedals? I was planning on using them for forward/reverse thrust in ED. 5. My chair is a wheely, spinny office chair. Suggestions on how to stop chair sliding around when using pedals? 6. Do the pedals slide too? Best way to stop this? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I welcome any and all suggestions/tips/advice you may have! Light_has_come Edit: Does anyone know if it's possible to ergonomically center mount the Kosmosima? It doesn't say it has the 15 degree offset that possible with the MCG. The Foxx mounts do look good, although I do unfortunately live in Canada. I'll send him a message and see what he says about the shipping. Hmmm I didn't actually realize that office chair wheels were removable. I may have to put something rubber in there because my floor is hardwood but that is a great idea. Thanks.
VpR81 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Regarding #2 , you may wish to consider Foxx deskmounts as they are similar to but less expensive than the Monstertechs , and you will save a ton on shipping . The reason for that is mostly, that Foxx Mounts uses much smaller/thinner and therefore less stable aluminium profiles than Monstertech does. Monstertech uses massive 80mm x 40mm Item notch 8 profiles, Foxx Mounts uses way smaller profiles and the Monstertech ones hold better on the desk. Put both next to each other, the Monstertech mounts are massive compared to the Foxx Mounts. The cheaper price is not magically created, it has reasons. Not saying Foxx Mounts isn'ta good product, it definately is. But ppl should be aware of the difference and that Monstertech isn't more expensive for no reason. Check Jabbers review, at 1:40 both are placed next to each other and you will see the enormous difference in size. Light_has_come Hi, was looking too for this just now for my TM Cougar throttle and found some, ordered here: https://www.oveready.com/flashlight/nyogel-767aa-damping-grease-10g-tube/ US site in Oregon I think, came to 39.50 CAD with paypal fees and shipping Via USPS. Let's see if customs don't gouge me. edit: dang! Found some on ebay too,50g also cheaper by the gram from previous link, but still, ebay through customs maybe gougey at times. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lubricant-Grease-Nyogel-50g-Tube/401292936041?hash=item5d6eec4369:g:6x0AAOSwol5YzIZc Micma99 Stay safe out there! SVgamer72 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 For mounting you can get something like the “Wheelsrand Pro”, or build your own for much less. https://wheelstandpro.us/wheel-stand-pro-super-warthog-wheel-stand-for-your-thrustmaster-hotas-warthog-and-saitek-pedals-pedals-mouse-keyboard-throttles-not-included/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Part of the appeal is the Foxx mount is the free shipping but alas when I looked into it it costs the same to ship them from the US as it does to ship from Monstertech in Europe. Kind of odd but there ya go.

These are good finds, thank you. I heard from a guy on reddit that 10g is plenty so I think I'll end up ordering from the first place.

The cost of one massive thing like that is pretty close to the cost of 3 desk mounts. I probably don't have the space for it myself but I'll look into it.
