PoorOldSpike Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) The Maverick 'F' has got 3 fuse settings- Impact, Delay 1 and Delay 2 and I'm just wondering which settings are the best to use against ships, buildings, vehicles etc? On paper, the two Delay settings sound logical because the missile will penetrate the target and detonate inside it, but what if the target is too tough to be penetrated by a relative small missile like the Mav,(eg a concrete building or armoured warship or tank), will the missile break up on impact before penetrating and be wasted or what? Ramsay Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) The Maverick 'F' has got 3 fuse settings- Impact, Delay 1 and Delay 2 and I'm just wondering which settings are the best to use against ships, buildings, vehicles etc? AFAIK the effects of the different fuse settings aren't modelled in DCS. IRL you'd likely use delay 1 (14ms) for most targets, so the warhead detonated inside the target i.e. tank, building, ship, etc. Delay 2 (~30ms) is for more specialised targets where you need the missile to penetrate further i.e. deep inside a building/structure. On paper, the two Delay settings sound logical because the missile will penetrate the target and detonate inside it, Using "Impact" (1.2ms) vs a tank, etc. risks the detonation occurring on the surface and the armour reflecting most of the blast (reactive armour tries to achieve the same effect vs missiles with "delay 1"). ... but what if the target is too tough to be penetrated by a relative small missile like the Mav,(eg a concrete building or armoured warship or tank), will the missile break up on impact before penetrating and be wasted or what? "delay 1" vs an armoured target, *might* penetrate 3-6 inches before exploding, OTOH if it failed to penetrate at all, it would explode on the surface and rely on blast damage for a mobility kill.
