Hey guys. I'm having a problem with the Tomcat that has made it unflyable for me.

When loading into the 'pit, the Oculus view is bugged out. It doesn't look like I'm in the cockpit, but rather like I'm looking at a video screen in the headset, if that makes sense.

IOW, if I look 90 degrees left or right, I'm looking at black because I'm looking beyond the "border" of the "screen" instead of what's to my right or left. Same with up and down. If I look behind me, I can see another "screen" that shows what's behind me, but it's inverted so everything is upside-down. And there's black in between.

Also, in the black, there is the Oculus loading hourglass.

What's weirder is when I peek under the headset at my monitor, the Oculus Mirror is tracking just fine. You can see everything as meant to be seen on the monitor, but it's all screwy in the headset.

This happens every time I load the Tomcat, and it's the only aircraft it happens on. I've Googled the problem but haven't found any solutions for this or any other aircraft in DCS.

Can someone please help? I'm really feeling the itch to fly the 'Cat again. Thanks!!

This has happened to me on occasion.

I think it has to do with the whole VR software stack not loading in the right order on time.

To avoid issues, I have to (after rebooting), make sure that:

(1) Oculus home is first loaded. I often double-click on the icon to launch it rather than wait for it to come on automatically.

(2) The headset is active: I wait till Oculus home is loaded, then put on the headset and wait to make sure that the virtual world is active and ready before moving on.

(3) Only THEN (and without taking off the headset) do I launch DCS.

This usually works out OK. Missing some of these steps, and especially, just launching DCS without launching Oculus home results in issues sometimes, depending on the load order and sequence. Then I have to reboot and re-do.

Also an annoying bug I have is that I have to unplug and replug the Rift S USB before launching Oculus home or otherwise the virtual world does not work. I think it's got to do with my specific hardware though.

What works for me, is to load the Oculus software, put the headset on, switch to virtual desktop view and run DCS from there. Otherwise, I get random black screens in the headset (ok on the monitor) etc.

I did have a headset die in Dec last year and it took 2 frustrating months of dealing with Oculus support (re-install windows, because that's the problem etc) before they agreed to swap it - the symptoms were random loss of tracking when then headset was on, so don't rule out hardware issues!

Not seen anything 14 specific though.
