Sublimearrepentido Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Im not asking what the IRL diff is. I did notice Ive flown am entire sortie on RAM air. What functional diff doesnt switching to any of that make?
mattag08 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Considering it's an Environmental Control System item, probably not much in the sim. If modeled properly, the ECS controls: 1. External drop tank pressurization 2. Cockpit pressurization 3. Canopy seals 4. Windshield and canopy defogging 5. Windshield anti-ice 6. Windshield air 7. Anti-g suit inflation 8. Pressure and exposure suit vent air 9. Wing airbag seals 10. Ammunition purging (aircraft prior to block 150) 11. Electronic equipment cooling and pressurization 12. Temperature control of liquid coolant supplied to AN/AWG-9 control system and AIM-54A Phoenix missile. In theory turning it to the wrong setting could result in ECS overheating and other issues. I thought they mentioned this being modeled, but I've never seen it myself. RAM AIR was used to circulate fresh air through the cabin (such as when there is smoke in the cabin due to electrical failure or some such). These sorts of environmental cockpit effects aren't modeled. If the ECS is in the RAM AIR or OFF position you can't fire the gun. sublime Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I noted it said that in the manual. I also noted the instruments are in the ac section in cockpit and selecting both engines sounds like turning.. a car ac on. I have a feelinf thats their sole purpose. I also noticed theres no need to run any bit tests in game. Whar about the hydraulic pressure? Turning it low and then normal does it matter? I just flew 100 nm with it on low before realizing and setting to normal..
sLYFa Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) Whar about the hydraulic pressure? Turning it low and then normal does it matter? Are you talking about the switch on the right side-console? Thats the emergency flight hydraulic pump. You don't need to touch that at all unless both engine driven hydraulic pumps fail (well and of course for testing the system prior to engine start) On the ECS, IIRC damage to the awg-9 is modelled due to lack of cooling air although it has its own automatic ram air door that deploys in case of main cooling air failure. Basically, all kinds of stuff (CADC, flight instruments etc.) could fail if you fly in either RAM or OFF and dont deploy the ram air door (thats the upper right switch on the ECS panel). But apparently this is not modelled. Edited April 25, 2020 by sLYFa i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
Sublimearrepentido Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 Yes i am talling about that. Youre supposed to turn it on low during start up for some reason
sLYFa Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 That is to check the backup flight control hydraulic pump. With both engines off, you first turn it to low, move the stick and verify the stabs are actually moving. Then you put it in high and again check for stab movement. After that, you put it back to auto which shuts the backup pump off. It will automatically come back on if you loose both engine driven pumps inflight. i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
