bonesvf103 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 So we were flying MP last night adn me and my wingman both noticed that the Mavericks wouldn't uncage. In my case, I got the first Maverick to fire fine, but when I went to target another target with the 2nd Maverick right afterwards, it refused to uncage. I was set to AG mode, had the TDC diamond in the Maverick screen, but everytime I hit uncage, the screen still said CAGED. My wingman had the same problem. He's not sure but he things that when he changed to AA then back to AG it worked OK after that, but he can't confirm it. We did land and swap out our GBUs for Mavs before going on this mission, so he thinks maybe the ground crew armed it wrong? Like if we move anything while they are arming it messes it up? Any ideas? Also , we both tuned in an ADF. I heard the Morse code but never saw the circle icon in the HSI compass rose as usual. He was tuned in the same way but he could see the circle. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks! v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. pchRage Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 i had same problem this weekend, but my case was slightly different. flight #1 i had 4 mavF, launched 3 of them and then got jumped by a J11. Ended up having to emergency jettison the remaining mav. After that fight, I RTB landed, refueled and rearmed with same loadout. Headed back to target area, un-harrassed this time, and only 3 of the 4 worked. The last mavF would not fire, not uncage, not even zoom its FOV. It was the same pylon as the one I had to jettison.
Grifter Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Can't Uncage Mavs I'm Bones' wingman and I also had this issue. Perhaps I didn't let the mavs warm up long enough, but I doubt it. I think I started to warm them well before target. I couldn't select the DDI with my Mav page open as my sensor of interest. I went back to A2A and then back to A2G mode. I finaly had control of the Mav page and could slew the Mav's eye. However, the missile would not fire off the rail. My plane had suffered no damage during flight.
bonesvf103 Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 And in my particular case, I had fired off the first Mav, and the next one refused to uncage or fire. v6, boNes PS Hi Grif! 1 "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. PoorOldSpike Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 The Mav 'F' (infra-red version) realistically won't uncage if it can't get a solid lock when we hit the lock (uncage) button, usually because the target is too small or the range is too great. For example we can usually lock up ships out to the F's max range of around 7 miles because they're big crisp targets. However, if a small ground target can't be locked, one trick I use it to try to lock something near it and fire at that, and hope the blast radius will take out the nearby target.
