CTBlankenship Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Howdy, I'm going absolutely crazy ... I've installed DCS Open Beta server multiple times now and the Web GUI always says "Server not responding ...". The FIRST time I installed it (on a clean machine that never had DCS on it) the GUI worked and found the server. Forever after that I got the dreaded "Server not responding ..." error. I know that there are many people hosting a server for open beta release but for the life of me I cannot get it to work. I've port forwarded 5002, 8088 and 10308 on my Netgear router and I've opened these ports in Norton 360. I know that the ports are open since my DCS-SRS Version 1.8.0.2 install (5002) is working splendidly. I've tested the ports using https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and 5002 is reported to be open but 10308 and 8088 appear to be closed. After much research I found out that this is not necessarily a good indication of an open port because there has to be a service running behind that port for the port to show up as enabled. Since there are no services running on these ports yet it is not surprising the utility is showing those ports to be closed. Just as a test I'm downloading the DCS Server (stable version) to see if the problem only resides in the beta. However, this is not an option because all of my buddies relying on this server install are running the Open Beta. Any help would be greatly appreciated. CTBlankenship Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Update: I just installed DCS Server (2.5) and the same problem exists. The problem must reside on my side but I'm having a Devil of a time finding out what it is. Nagilem Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Two things - make sure the windows Firewall has the ports open that you need on the hosting machine, and use chrome or firefox to connect to it, even locally. You should be able to connect to the dedicated server using the local browser. Until that happens, the rest is immaterial. :pilotfly: Specs: I9-9900k; ROG Strix RTX 2080ti; Valve Index HMD; 32GB DDR4 3200 Ram; Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD; TM Warthog with pedals, 3 TM MFDs
CTBlankenship Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Yea ... I know ... I open the Index.html file in E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCSWorldServer\WebGUI subdirectory with Chrome but to no avail. I still get the same error message. It is odd since the first time I installed the Open Beta Server everything was working well, then, about an hour later, disaster struck and I've been stuck in this hole ever since ... go figure. As for Windows Firewall it is not applicable since it has been disabled by Norton 360 ... at least when I go to mess with its settings that is what the configuration says. I tend to agree with it since I have 5002 working for SRS and I simply did the exact same thing with 8088 and 10308. I hate to give up on things but I'm getting close. Thank you for your reply ... CTBlankenship Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Thanks for your reply ... yes, I opened both TCP and UDP. And I have installed it on two machines, the first on a machine that didn't have any form of DCS on it. This is the machine that worked the first time but after an hour failed with the "Server not responding ..." error. The second machine I installed it on was my DCS Client machine and it failed immediately. MonnieRock Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 CTBlankenship, If both machines are on the same LAN, to access your server from the client you need to enter the LAN IP example 192.168.1.1 Secondly, try adding this line to a autoexec.cfg on both machines net.force_ipv4_lan = true Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
CTBlankenship Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 Ah ... sounds like we might be getting somewhere ... unfortunately you have me at a disadvantage: 1) "enter the LAN IP ... example 192.168.1.1" where do I enter it? 2) where is the autoexec.cfg? ... this one is vaguely familiar Sorry to annoy you and thank you so much for helping out. CTBlankenship Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Well ... we definitely got closer ... I put the autoexec.cfg in the SavedGames/DCS.openbeta_server/Config and now the Local Web GUI launches and allows me to enter a list of missions but when I press Start or Restart the new message is "Server offline" ... "Error starting server". Sigh ... sooner or later we'll whip this bull into shape ... thanks for your help. MonnieRock Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) CTBlankenship, Almost time to break out the Scotch and a nice Cigar. Create a autoexec.cfg for both client and the server. You "should" see your server in the multiplayer list as a result. To connect the client direct IP to your server from the multiplayer menu(in case it is not in the list), that is where you enter the LAN IP. Probably should add the port. example 192.168.1.1:10308 "Error starting server" Double check your sever cfg files. Not at my gaming computers so someone else may chime in If I remember correctly, what I did was create a multiplayer game with my client(since it has a user interface) with all the settings I wanted, then closed it, transferred that cfg file to my server. Tweaked from there in the "Local Web GUI"server page. Have not played DCS since August so I can not remember the names of the files (It is hell getting old) Edited May 5, 2020 by MonnieRock Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
CTBlankenship Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Not just yet ... one step forward two steps back it would seem. One thing I forgot to mention was that when I launched DCS from the command line using "DCS.EXE --webgui" it would ask me for my User ID and Password and then, once it authenticated, a blank square with DCS in the title bar pops up and has the words (Not Responding) next to it. This happened on both machines after installing server files. Even on the first ever attempt on my laptop which worked initially for an hour or so. Don't know if that makes any difference ... thought I'd throw another log on the fire. Status Update: Now when I launch the Web GUI it constantly says "Loading ..." flashing in orange forever. When I close that blank window "DCS (Not Responding)" the message changes to "Server not responding". Grrrrrr ... good f'ng night ... I think I'm finally beat ... but nope ... I'm like a dog with a bone. CTBlankenship Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 I give up ... it just isn't to be. CTBlankenship Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 I got it working locally ... now I can't get the Multiplayer environment to access the server using the Connect by IP option to recognize the server. ED Team c0ff Posted May 6, 2020 ED Team Posted May 6, 2020 Well, good to know they aren't getting anywhere ... I've given my IP to no one as of yet ... very odd. Automatic IP range scan most probably. That aside ... why can't my server be located/seen outside of my home LAN? The required port is obviously open so I don't get it. DCS needs the port to be open for both TCP and UDP. Standard "open port check" services can check for TCP only. In your case, most probably UDP packets do not get through. Dmitry S. CTBlankenship Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 My router is setup to forward the port 10308 to my dedicated laptop (absolutely no other programs are installed on it) ... both TCP and UDP protocols are allowed. I ran the following PowerShell commands on the laptop (I use Norton 360 but that program is not yet installed on the laptop): New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "DCS TCP Inbound" -Direction Inbound -LocalPort 10308 -Protocol TCP -Action Allow New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "DCS UDP Inbound" -Direction Inbound -LocalPort 10308 -Protocol UDP -Action Allow I'm at a loss ... I've done everything I know to do ... sigh Thanks so much for your time, CTBlankenship Intel I7-4770K @ 4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, EGVA GTX 1070 SC, Three ASUS PA248 24" monitors, 500 GB SSD, Saitek X-56 Throttle and Stick, TrackIR

CTBlankenship Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 I wonder if it makes any difference that my laptop is connected to the LAN via a wireless connection. I tend to think it doesn't since I can get the server to work behind the router (local LAN). In any event I have a CAT-5 Ethernet Cable coming so I can troubleshoot further. Thanks for all of your help ... one and all, CTBlankenship Intel I7-4770K @ 4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, EGVA GTX 1070 SC, Three ASUS PA248 24" monitors, 500 GB SSD, Saitek X-56 Throttle and Stick, TrackIR
