Firing the Laser

I am having problems firing the laser using both LGBs and MavE. Which leads me to ask 2 questions.

 

First, how do I tell if the laser is firing?

 

Second how do I fire it (and stop it firing)?

 

Most videos say ‘Fire the laser’. However at various times the method of firing the laser has been described as ‘Pressing the trigger to the second stage and holding it pressed’, and ‘Pressing and releasing the trigger’.

 

Can someone give me a definitive answer to this?

First, how do I tell if the laser is firing?

 

 

1. Arm the laster. Master Arm On. Set A/G Mode. Set LTD switch to arm (right panel in between TGP & NFLIR switches).

 

2. On the DDI with the TGP display select "TRIG" in the upper right corner of the display.

3. Choose target.

4. Squeeze trigger (2nd detent I think. It's muscle memory at this point.) to turn on laser.

5. Squeeze again to turn off.

 

 

 

 

Second how do I fire it (and stop it firing)?

 

LTD/R flashes on DDI with TGP displayed.

In A/G mode, move the LTD/R switch to ARM. The TRIG option will appear on the FLIR page and if you select it, you'll be able to fire and stop firing the laser with the trigger on the stick. When the laser is armed, "L ARM" shows on the the FLIR page and when it's firing, "LTD/R" is shown. Next to UFC, the laser code you're using is shown and pressing UFC allows you to change it.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to use your gun, since you're using the trigger for the laser and so selecting TRIG will remove the GUN option from the STORES page. Lastly, the LTD/R switch is magnetically held and will return to SAFE if you exit A/G mode or turn off the TPOD.

That is the problem. When I select FLIR, with or without being in A/G mode, I do not get a TRIG option on the FLIR page. I used to before the latest update, but now all I get are RTCL, VSVL, and UFC.

 

I also don’t get any indication of the laser being on or armed.

I send my most embarrassed apologies. I use Helios, and for some reason the connection between the LTD/R switch on the Helios display and the main game, has become inoperative. Thus the LTD/R was not set to ARM.

 

If I had a pound (or a Euro), for every time, over the past 30 years that I have told one of my students to “Don’t assume - Check!”, I would be a rich man, rather than a rather foolish one.
