Spirit X Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I've noticed this in an intercept mission. I have 4 Phoenix's on board and we spot a two-ship of mig's at 120nm. As they close, Jester goes TWS-A and I fire two missiles, one at each target. When we then get to about 40-50 miles, I want to do another round of two missiles in TWS but the trigger is cold. Jester won't lock them up again after I've fired the first two unless I order an STT lock on them one-by-one....which is a real pain. Any way around this? Am I not doing something I should be doing?
Stingray 537 Mongo Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 If both of your initial Phoenixes haven't gone pitbull yet, that might be why Jester isn't locking them up. Doing so would cause the two missiles in the air to go stupid. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk 537 Mongo CO vVF-161 Fightin' Stingrays Check us out on the web!
IronMike Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Yes, this was simply a limitation that existed in real life as well. Imagine what an exceptional event it would have been irl to fire a phoenix at an enemy at all (carrying them around was weapon enough, as in keeping the enemy away, which irl is better than killing), so a double tap, like we do them in DCS, would be rather unlikely as well - even if it would have been possible, which it wasn't. As much as it was unlikely that a bandit would keep fighting with a phoenix heading his way... Hence such limitations are more understandable from a rl perspective than a DCS perspective where we tend to overuse weapons a lot - after all that is in parts why we are here. :-) Heatblur Simulations Please feel free to contact me anytime, either via PM here, on the forums, or via email through the contact form on our homepage. http://www.heatblur.com/ https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
Spirit X Posted May 22, 2020 Author Posted May 22, 2020 Interesting point. As I'm much more of a 'gamer' than an experienced sim guy, I hadn't really thought of it in those terms. I guess weapon use in DCS is obviously much more free and easy than rl. I'm sure that if I was in an actual jet during wartime and saw a two-ship of Tomcat's at 100 miles, my first thought would probably be to just gtfo.

Exactly why the Tomcat was such a successful weapon irl, without even firing a shot. Which is the pinnacle of weapons: a weapon that does not need to be used. It's mere existance keeps the enemy at bay, at no loss of human life on either sides.
