wizav Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 This is about Mig 19 30mm bullet, but in general all other DCS 30mm bullets (like 37mm Mig 15 bullet as well) I had to fire multiple of these in Mig 19 (hitting the target) to shot it down. Mirage 2000 pilot commenting Mig-19 bullets: "How effective were its weapon systems? “With 30mm canon, just one bullet hitting the target was enough to destroy it. That is if you had computed the gunsight calculations correctly. It had no forward looking radar and no missiles carriage capability. It was the PAF (Pakistan Air Force) which modified it to carry two US made heat-seeking Sidewinder missiles.” [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
razo+r Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Wait for the reworked damage model. Right now the players airplane damage models are really old. AI doesn't care too much about the interaction between damage and flight model. Ground units are still based on health points and a damage modifier depending on angle and aspect.

The DEFA 550 30mm serie has a very destructive effect vs ground or air targets alike. It is lethal within a 15m radius of the point of impact depending on ammunition, on another aircraft, it is totally destructive, see footages of Migs shot down by Mirage IIIs. Not only this, but harmonized, the pod containing the two guns will put 90% of its shells in a target composed of two 4m X 4m squares sharing a surface of 1m X 1m at 1.200m, a good portion of which will hit the smaller square, dispersion is quite low for this type of gun. They also have a better ballistic characteristic than the 23mm of the Russian or the 27mm used on other guns, despite their lower rate of fire, they offer the highest chances of kills. https://www.nexter-group.fr/sites/default/files/fichiers-catalogue-produit/30mm.pdf Edited May 23, 2020 by Thinder Win 11Pro. Even best ballistic calculator couldn't handle it They also have a better ballistic characteristic than the 23mm of the Russian or the 27mm used on other guns, despite their lower rate of fire, they offer the highest chances of kills. technically speaking - this thing could dismantle everything in its path in a matter of seconds =)
