Common Controller Mapping’s

Hi All,

 

Total noob here, just starting with DCS. Is there a diagram that shows the common mappings for the Winwing Joystick and Throttle? I won't be using the F/A-18 startup panel yet I expect.

 

For example,

 

Which hat for trim – middle one (3,4,5,6), or the right one (1); other?

Which one to centre the TrackIR

Which one for Zoom?

 

Any other good ones, like weapon switch?

Google F-18 HOTAS diagram and do 1:1 mapping according to the picture. For HAT trim it is the right most HAT switch. The red button on upper left is weapon release.

 

For TrackIR recenter, I would use a switch that is not there in real plane such as the depressed button on the COMM switch ( on throttle grip).

 

I use the friction slider on the throttle for zoom, via axis binding page in DCS control setting.

How do you do with that lever moving als the real friction?

There is a way to decouple it?

Otherwise when at max zoom will be hard to move throttle i guess

Yes maximum zoom will generate a lot of friction but I just never need to zoom all the way in. I sit right next to my big screen TV and almost never need zoom, my extreme use would be between 40 and 70% of the zoom slider. Even then you can also put a curve on it to keep everything near the center (the lever has very long throw so no need to use the entire axis length). Tension can also be adjusted but I haven't tried since it has to be done on both sides which can cause uneven tension between the throttles if you mess up.

 

Alternatively, the dial knobs on the panel work very well for zoom. Dial knobs on all of my custom-made button boxes cause jittery during operation when bind to zoom (including my relatively new Black Hog), not so with this WINWING’s device. It is so good.
