Give GG a break

You're quite right. Maybe I was being a bit smartassed or something - If I gave offence GG I appologise.

I have no hope that gusting wind will be in this DCS release (I had a small one but EB1 said some weeks ago it wasn't a happening thing), but as I said above 2 out of the next 3 releases are helicopters, & probably 4 out of the next 4 will (whether rightly or wrongly) probably be spending a lot of time flying around in the weeds ...

Also - I'm suggesting that before full atmospheric physics are added (given the amount of work & CPU cycles this is likely to involve, probably a long way down the track), a more complex version of the present wind modelling be added ( the present system doesn't appear to cause any FPS hit at all, so making it slightly more complex would presumably be withing the capabilities of most machines) as an interim measure. Perhaps with adjustable components in both the horizontal and vertical axis.

Anyway - repeating myself - if it's not in DCS-BS, I'm not suggesting that the rel;ease be delayed while they add it, but I am suggesting that it be added to the next release..

regarding this :

if a gust of wind is going to put a ten-ton, 4000hp chopper into a hill, then either you're doing something wrong...

I'd say look again at the video I posted at the begining of the thread. There's a lot more weight in a 737 than a Ka-50, but there's a lot of shots of them bouncing up & down & getting throwns sideways in ways that would be very entertaining in a future DCS release.

Save you going back for the link:

I'm telling you it wouldn't be entertaining unless you were goofing off ;)

And no, I'm not offended. I've been in too many of these forum bouts to take them seriously - that is, I take the message seriously, I just don't get too razzled by it.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Generally, that is the way we should all react around here. Often text is extremely hard to interpret and expression doesnt come over so easily. Even just mispelling a word can throw off the meaning of the setence. Heck, half of the smilies could convey some really contrasting opinions.:D:music_whistling::doh:

EX- I bougt a box o pencil and stil cant right write. Should had gotten an edumakation.:D

Although I don't have any official feedback about the possibility of such a feature, I can at least tell you it was also brought up on the beta tester's wish list a few months a go. You're definitely not alone. We'll see...

This is the only thing that needed to be said. Thanks EvilBivol.

I read the thread again and I see few "problems" (which come from misunderstanding) keep poping up and can make our cause to lose:

0. Why do we need it?

Pilot of ANY palne has to make biger or smaller but still - corrections during flight due to "unsteady air" of many kinds. We should be forced (noone has to force me;)) to face this challenge to. It can allways be as an option to turn off.:glare:

1. Who needs gusts smashing player aircraft into the hill?

NO ONE! We're talking about "strong" turbulence and wind at best not hurricanes.

2. Does the model have to be sophisticated?

No, it doesn't have to. Initial turbuence model we're asking for has nothing to do with dynamic modeling of atmospheric fronts etc. See the story*.

3. How do we feel the turbulence and gusts anyway?

a) VVI

b) obvious changes in pitch roll and yaw. You don't need ADI here.

c) changes in flight path clearly seen wen in proximity with ground, runway, other aircraft during flight.

d) last - "loose" cockpit camera (scalable).

STORY:

My professor is one of the creators of many military simulators for Poland and other countries includng one for US NAVY IIRC. During tests of Polish helo simulator he included sinusoidal movement of the local atmosphere (just the modeled helo surrounding) and said nothing about this to the testing pilot. He did it on the spot. No fancy modeling. The pilot finished the test and said - "This turbulence is ok, but you should add more variation to it". IIRC pilot "knew about sinusoid" thanks to (among others) torque indicator.

If there's no objections I hope to add these comments to our cause's essence before it's presented to ED next time.
