obious Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Hi All, After today’s OB update, I thought I’d give the new A/A tracking ability of our trusty LITENING a whirl. After setting up a simple mission where I’m at the 3 o clock position of about 5-6 Russian Bears (around 20nm) I was able to lock (using the AA radar) a target and have the TPOD slave successfully. After using various levels of zoom, I noticed a rather annoying thing when trying to VID the bogey in that the video display of the TPOD was all jittery as it was tracking the aircraft through the sky. Anyone else notice the same when tracking A/A targets using the LITENING? Santi871 Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 It's not a bug, there's a limit to the rate at which the MC can stabilize the pod on the target. Once the pod is capable of autotrack (point track), it's significantly more stable
Wizard_03 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 It also seems like there is a range limitation of about 17NM for PTRK on an aircraft. I can slave the pod to the Radars LOS of course but I can't get the pod to independently track or Correlate beyond about 17ish NM Is that Correct? Seems reasonable to me. Beyond that range the target is very small unless zoomed to 9 with narrow FOV DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
Santi871 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 The point track range limit is gonna get look into, it's reported:) pretty sure it's unchanged from the A-10C litening
Wizard_03 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Gotcha, sounds good. ;) Yeah I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong But once I got "in range" everything started working like in Wag's video. DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
Harker Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 It's more stable in Point Track, but not not as much as it should. If it has the target in Point Track, it should be able to smoothly track it, up to the angle rate limit of the camera head. Now it looks like it constantly loses and reacquires, even when the target is flying smoothly and the LOS rate of change is small. Seeing as it behaves similarly to the A-10C, I'm thinking it's a general implementation issue. For comparison, the JF-17's pod smoothly tracks the target after acquiring it in Point Track.
