sobe Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I am a little confused on the use of fixpoints when using harpoons. I understand that with a HPTP, the bearing direction begins at the HPTP, but such is not the case for a fixpoint. So when do you use fixpoints? Is it just used as a reference point for your plane and other planes? Is it just used as a reference point for your plane and other planes? I haven't used it in DCS yet but I would think it gives you the ability to fire the weapon without pointing and flying toward an intended target. Perhaps you want the missile to approach from a slightly different direction without having to fly to that point. Another reason, something else might be in a way... EDIT: disregard, I was talking about HTPT Edited June 16, 2020 by Gripes323
Wolf359 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 You can also use the points to direct the Harpoon to start searching at that point...fly low or high until it reaches that point, take a new heading or not, start searching. sobe Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 I am still confused. maxTRX Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I am still confused. If I remember correctly from SB sim the fixed point is a point halfway between search and destr. limits. once you have that option selected and you fire your Harpoon in BOL mode the fix remains and you can basically fly a 'DME arc' around that point;) and the following Harpoons can be fired from different angles at intervals, your BOL will pivot around the fix. I'm just shooting off my mouth from memory (possibly leaking:D) I'll try to setup a mission later.
maxTRX Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I just gave it a shot. I don't think 'FXP' is functional yet. I stumbled on something I didn't expect though;) Seems like Harpoons can fly around the hills... not too low:D
Flamin_Squirrel Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I just gave it a shot. I don't think 'FXP' is functional yet. It is functional (unless it's bugged out recently). It's just not immediately apparent it's doing anything until you've travelled some distance (either laterally or axially) from the point where you initially engaged it.

Possibly. 2 of my missiles went in different directions so it might be buggy or I goofed somewhere along the way. I'll play with more when I get a chance. Edit: The vid above was a normal BOL launch.
