Hi, I notice that there are lots of posts about hardware like sticks and such, and lots of subforums from the main joystick providers... but almost all of this is focused on fixed wing aircraft use. Occasionally there are topics for helicopter sticks and collectives, and how to mod your pedals for helis... but I think it would be very helpful to everyone if we could have a helicopter specific subforum.

Why? Because while much of it is basically the same, in many ways it's NOT the same. And I feel it's enough of a difference to actually matter, to deserve it's own sub-forum, bundle all the heli topics together.

I should point out, there's already 4 helis in DCS, and with the Kiowa Warrior and Mi-24 HIND arriving perhaps this year (I hope!), I feel this will be a growing area of interest to fly these complex birds with precision!

I agree. It would be nice.

We have "5" helis already.

Just tried out the free AH-6J yesterday.

Pretty cool, lots of fun.

No, not a mod. A very simple "module" some made just to show how to start. Own coded flight model. Open source, so all can benefit. Will be tuned for the upcoming free Sioux module if I've understood correctly.

Well, how I see it anyway!

The subforum would be great for discussing the costly professional level helo cyclics rudders and collectives for sale, if they are priced well for the level of quality.

It would be good for exploring cheap alternatives.

Good for modding or building your own helo controls, either on a budget or a pricey venture.

It would be great for discussing what kinds of characteristics of such controls are desirable, what is realistic, what concessions might be needed for "gaming".

It would be helpful to develop ideas for the hatswitch layout, as the helos we fly will have ever more functions to control... this is no longer a Huey "slick", when the Kiowa shows up, there will be many different functions we'll want to engage on the fly, in a hover. And what kind of layout for switches and hatswitches will serve the entire range of present and future DCS helos?

In real life, some attack helos have some seriously crazy HOTAS button layouts, the EuroTiger and AH-1Z come to mind, with so many hat switches,I really wonder how the pilots will keep track of it all...

Less expensive alternatives. ;D
