topol-m Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 That`s how I like to see this thread - alive. Four questions for a day, good work Renato and Namenlos. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Namenlos Ein Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Sorry, I was out at lunch... Tu-16P, version for electronic recce/surveillance. Some sources have it as Tu-16E (or subversion of P). Yes, this is Tu-16P the electronic warfare aircraft. Your turn.
Renato71 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 OK, lets try with this one. Name aircraft type, user and aircraft role: I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Renato71 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 SF260 Coin or light Air to Mud. Nope. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Renato71 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Nope. Time for hint: Not American. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Renato71 Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Another hint: Not built or used in any of Americas. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Renato71 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 (edited) No one else dares to guess, so another hints: - It was built as a 2 seater for civil and military basic training, and as a 4 seater for GA (General Aviation) Remember it s a three-part question: - aircraft type - user of modified a/c on pic - type of modification Edited March 21, 2010 by Renato71 I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
topol-m Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Ahh the windshield of a trainer aircraft. Can`t get much more difficult than that. Where is Namenlos? I`m sure he will be able to find it out. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Renato71 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Oh, well, it is kinda unique trainer with unique field modification, and 4-seat version was not all that widespread. I kinda expected that a "device" in front of the windshield will be enough. OK, few more hints: - Factory was established before WW2, but it prospered after WW2 with few more trainer and other civilian designs, all of which were piston engined - This is a post WW2 design and about 100 a/c were built - It has fixed tricycle landing gear I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
topol-m Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 You`ve given a lot of clues. If that`s not enough for guessing it then it is indeed a good question and you should be acknowledged as a victor with it... ahhh nostalgia :P, and you may ask the next question. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Renato71 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Oh, cmon, don't give up - I've prepared so many hints it will be a shame to waste them :) To answer this one, it will take some research in forgotten fields. Question itself is a hint, cos type, user and modification are closely connected and unique. Correct answer to any of those will answer other 2 parts. One more hint, this one in a form of a riddle: It was never exported, yet it was used by about 10 countries, air forces and armies. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Renato71 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Still nothing? Here is a visual hint... I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Zlin Z-42 or Z-242 trainer, I think. Can't guess at all the modifications, but you really need to ask for them? :P
Renato71 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 No. And, I believe that both of those were exported :) Also, 42 has one-piece windshield, and 242 has different cockpit doors, among other visible differences. The modification visible on first pic is a field modification, very unique, and thats why I assumed it will be a clue by itself - the modification is that thingie made out of wire in front of the windshield. cmon, cmon :) I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Namenlos Ein Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Looks like UTVA-75, but “they were exported to the United States.” http://lmk.vsetin.org/index.php?clanek=45 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_Utva_75 http://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utva-75 Utva-75 ima dvije podkrilne točke na koje se mogu montirati bombe (po jedna na svaku), transportni kontejneri nosivosti 100 kg, lanseri za po dvije rakete i strojnice. Edited March 23, 2010 by Namenlos Ein
Renato71 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Yes, Namenlos, it is UTVA-75! Don't get overexcited with that "exported" statement - thats just few examples, and only recently on a private basis, and exported from Serbia (one of the later users and a place where the factory is located). When it was produced in Yugoslavia, it wasn't exported. You can also see that "military operators" on English and Croatian pages on wiki differ slightly. OK, any ideas on user and device? You are soooo close now :) Namenlos can have a first go, but any one can give it a try :) Edited March 23, 2010 by Renato71 I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Namenlos Ein Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/waf/croatia/af2/types/utva.htm#u75 At least one used for ground attack missions with M-90 rockets.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M90_Rocket_Launcher The RBR-120 mm M90 nicknamed "Strsljen" (a word meaning hornet) is a light-weight weapon, made of fiber-reinforced plastics, intended for fight against armored vehicles, tanks, fortifications as well as live force. It is intended for a single usage.
Renato71 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Well, since you made the best find, I cannot blame you for quoting the incorrect source ;) Missile is anti-tank rocket M-79 "Osa" (Hornet). Two were mounted under each wing, and that "device" in front of the windshield was a wire frame used for aiming. Sadly, many things were poorly documented, and these pics are about the only pics of this modification. Aicraft below was used by 4th Guards Brigade during Croatian Independence War, and officially was never used by Croatian Air Force (in this form), although CroAF did use Utva 75 in recce and bombing roles. Installation with M-79 "Osa" was not very practical nor successive, but it did produce huge psychological effect :D Utva-75 was produced in Yugoslavia, but was/is used in all six successive republics (now independent states), as civil trainer, military trainer and military combat aircraft, in Air Forces and Armies of respective republics and by insurgents and local forces. Aircraft itself was next to a crap. It was about only basic trainer in the world that had huge warning over ins board that said "Aerobatics and spin performance prohibited". It had tendency to spin, stall and did not had a tendency to be recovered from that. Namenlos, your turn :) I'm selling MiG-21 activation key.
