Alpenwolf Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I don't see an option in the mission editor for presetting the ARC channels as I happen to need that for a mission I'm currently designing in the PG map. Is there a way to do it? It's good to see the RSBN channels receiving some love in the PG and you could use those to navigate well enough. I'm aware of that. Only checking out the ARC channels is all. Perhaps if you view the mission designer as the ground crew who'd have access to setting up ARC Channels? Godspeed, Magnitude! You know how much I love the MiG-21! HACA DYCA Discord Cold War 1947 - 1991 You can help me with keeping up the server via PayPal donations: hokumyounis@yahoo.com
Кош Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Also we can't use far/close ARK beacons for patterns. Sarmatt did a mod setting all channels to Russian far/close airfield's beacons, but still I'm not sure if the whole logic of ARK is realistic now - no wonder when it was made. It badly needs an update to be relevant with the current Caucasus and, for example, L-39. Same as own RSBN's and not the world ones. ППС АВТ 100 60 36 Ф < | > ! Frederf Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 First, the DCS MiG-21bis doesn't use ARK frequencies, only latitude and longitude. Look in file R_NAV_data_PersianGulf.lua in cockpit\systems\ folder. You won't see any reference to frequency. You can see that only 6 ARK locations are programmed corresponding to "sector" 1i, buttons 1-6. Every other slot is blank. If you wanted to you could program in a custom station to this file but it would only work for computers with this modification. The real system has only 9 frequencies which can be altered on the ground. In reality buttons 1-9 choose which frequency is outer beacon selection and waves switch 2,4,6,8 gives four choices of inner beacon frequency. Choice between I/II determines if fast or slow tuning circuit is used. 1
portman Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Choice between I/II determines if fast or slow tuning circuit is used. "I" is used if the frequency of the inner beacon is lower then the one of the outer beacon, "II" if the frequency of the inner beacon is higher then the one of the outer beacon. This speeds up the changeover time. Sarmatt's mod makes it better, but still not realistic, as the frequency does not automatically change to "inner" when overflying the outer beacon. Tarres Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 The "navigation code" is a leftover from the "LOMAC 21 MOD". Even it has the old "beacons" from Crimean map. From KA-50 onwards, different types of beacons from NDB to ILS and RSBN are available in the base code. You can see the code in the respective LUA. People must remember that this code has not been updated and the first idea was the 21bis designed as a "standalone" (many years ago). You can see this in the warehouses in the ME, there are some weapons from LOMAC e.g. the old BETAB with their old names.

Tarres Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 And the module needs an update to work just like this. Frequency setting for channels can be done in the mission editor. And slant rangefinder block...And ASP... All these things are leftovers from the 21 Mod for Lomac. Asp, ARK, MRP-56, slant range...haven’t been developed for ages. I think that this part of the code (avionics) has never been developed from their initial status.
Alpenwolf Posted July 11, 2020 Author Posted July 11, 2020 Didn't know all that stuff about the ARC in real life. If that's the case then I'm hoping it gets done, and mission designers get to change the ARC channels' frequencies.
