Pretorian84 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Hi all, Just got into DCS, love it. Though having major issues with constant crashing with my 1080 Ti. Tried a system format from scratch with latest drivers. No luck. I got it from eBay. I know risky. Managed to get my money back. What would you recommend? I did have a 1060, but sold that a while back. I don't use VR. Have a 1080p display. I am planning on going new this time. Thanks
reece146 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Did you verify the fans on the card are working? Maybe the fans are dying - need to be refreshed. You should be able to tell just by watching the card while it is running... Might be worth verifying what firmware is flashed to the card also - used card with unknown history - who knows. Just a thought - shame to bin a nice card like a 1080Ti.

Just tried another session of DCS, crashed litterly seconds. After DCS session, card is clicking also? I think the card has been through a War previously. I had a windows 10 setup also, same crashing. Edited July 10, 2020 by Pretorian84
reece146 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 For giggles I'd download 'MSI Afterburner' (or whatever tool you normally use) and turn on monitoring of the GPU (write to a log file) and see what the temperatures on the card are doing when it fails. Another thought: could also be that the thermal paste on the card has dried out. I was having lots of issues with my Intel i7-3770K when overclocked. I bought a new cooler and as I was taking it apart realized that the old OEM cooler was most likely starting to fail because the paste had dried out. Things to check before having to spend big money are always good. :)
Pretorian84 Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 Yeah definitely, card has been returned so all good. Awaiting refund. Looking at 2060 from amazon. Looks like a nice card. I didn’t want to take the 1080 to apart as it had 30 day warranty with full refund guarantee.
