There is a little more to it but essentially it has been added to the main campaign as an option for those pilots who have not yet mastered the black art of capturing the basket. I was one of them once and it meant I never considered anything with air to air refuel. As the campaign demands air to air refuel for successful completion those pilots would not be able to enjoy the campaign. This simple optional addition allows them to fly the campaign until they have perfected air to air refuel. It does mean also they can then fly the normal campaign when they have perfected there technique.
