captain_dalan Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 (edited) Hey guys. Finally after more then a month of absence i got back to DCS. Ran few of the tutorial and instant action missions to get my bearings right. During one of the hops (Constant peg GEN 3), after splashing the other 2 bandits, i ended up in a guns turning fight with the last MiG-23 (pictures attached). However, to my great surprise, i had no gun cross when i had the target locked. The cross was there when the lock was broken (also in the photos). The gun sight clearly worked later on in another mission when i fought a 29 (again photo). What i did notice though (after splashing the 23), was that i had pulled 10g at least once during that fight. So is this over-g damage to the weapon system? Or just some weird rare bug? Is this kind of damage modeled? And if so, what did i break? :joystick: Cheers and happy flying! :pilotfly: Edited August 8, 2020 by captain_dalan Modules: FC3, Mirage 2000C, Harrier AV-8B NA, F-5, AJS-37 Viggen, F-14B, F-14A, Combined Arms, F/A-18C, F-16C, MiG-19P, F-86, MiG-15, FW-190A, Spitfire Mk IX, UH-1 Huey, Su-25, P-51PD, Caucasus map, Nevada map, Persian Gulf map, Marianas map, Syria Map, Super Carrier, Sinai map, Mosquito, P-51, AH-64 Apache, F4U Corsair, WWII Assets Pack
captain_dalan Posted August 8, 2020 Author Posted August 8, 2020 No one ever dealt with something like this before? Modules: FC3, Mirage 2000C, Harrier AV-8B NA, F-5, AJS-37 Viggen, F-14B, F-14A, Combined Arms, F/A-18C, F-16C, MiG-19P, F-86, MiG-15, FW-190A, Spitfire Mk IX, UH-1 Huey, Su-25, P-51PD, Caucasus map, Nevada map, Persian Gulf map, Marianas map, Syria Map, Super Carrier, Sinai map, Mosquito, P-51, AH-64 Apache, F4U Corsair, WWII Assets Pack
jmarso Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 I've noticed my HUD screwed up all sorts of ways after overstressing the A/C on a couple of occasions. Velocity vector out to lunch, no velocity vector at all, you name it. Ususally with 10+ G showing on the meter. So I guess it's not inconceivable that you broke something on your jet with that pull. I guess the test would be to load up another mission and see if everything goes back to normal when the jet isn't overstressed. But to answer your question, yes, I have seen this before, but only when I've taken battle damage or seriously over-g'd the jet as mentioned above. Everything always works as advertised 'the next time', so I've never assumed it to be a game glitch- just being ham-fisted on my part.
Quid Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 I've definitely had it happen before. The gunsight would disappear when the target was locked, but the basic diamond/cross would show up when I broke lock. I don't know if it's a bug, or if it was because I overstressed the jet. Given its irregularity, I'd guess the latter - it's been a few months. Top Jockey Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Don't know about gun sight damage as I never tested on it. But I believe it might very well also be possible, as the pitch ladder does get distorted when employing agressive G's repeatedly... I was beginning to think i was going bananas in my old age :D Don't know about gun sight damage as I never tested on it. But I believe it might very well also be possible, as the pitch ladder does get distorted when employing agressive G's repeatedly... Yeah, i've seen the twisted pitch ladder before, or the INS going offline, or some similar things. It's just that this time everything else, including the lift vector continued to work. Even the cross was there when the lock was broken.
