markturner1960 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Hi, in response to the pictures etc of the new Syria map, I asked the following: Hi Maestro, impressive, I have pre- ordered. Can I ask you about the terrain mesh? My biggest disappointment within DCS world regarding the terrain is the lack of detail on the mountains etc. Its clear that the terrain mesh resolution is very low, with no sharp detail, hills rounded off etc. Have you been able to improve this significantly within the map, or is it limited by the current engine? Finally, will your product be compatible with any planned DCS core engine terrain rendering improvements, when ever they appear? Thank you! No one from Ugra or elsewhere replied, so I thought I would ask here instead.......Can someone from ED etc answer with any information? Thanks! It's visible in the DCS: Syria Map - Bekaa Valley on YT at 19:16. It's not finished and I've not used it, so a bit early to be picking out problems. I would also imagine this is core ED code, rather than Urga Media's methods. Screenshot in previous post is very complimentary. Valve Index | RTX 4080 (Mobile) | i9-14900HX @ 2.20 GHz | 32GB RAM
markturner1960 Posted August 19, 2020 Author Posted August 19, 2020 Hi, thanks, OK, so it looks like in the Syria map, the "mesh resolution " is much better, which is great! I watched a video of a canyon run as well and the sides of the mountains did also look much more defined. I presume this is all done within the limitations of the current DCS terrain engine? So that would indicate that it is indeed possible to improve the terrain within the current engine ! I have not yet had a chance to download and use the map yet, and was not trying to find problems, but simply asking a question about the DCS terrain engine, using the new map as an example. I would still like to know for example , if existing maps like Caucasus or NTTR could be reversed engineered using the same method Ugra have used to improve the terrain definition over mountains etc? And if that was likely to happen? System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
