mr_mojo97 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Lol, so we got fibre installed today. It was just funny to watch the download for the Nvidia driver go from nothing to complete in around 40s where it would normally take 10-20mins!! And to think I have Syria to download in a couple of hours and that's 47Gb. And that would have taken at least full day!! Just thought I'd share my enjoyment. Eldur Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Actually, what's fibreglass? *cries in Germany* (Danke, Helmut!) Well, actually we have at least FTTC in some regions (mainly big cities), and I could get 100MBit/s down because of that, but for most services the reality is completely different. Like YouTube... stutter free in 720p or higher without loading pauses would be a dream. One day... one day... Could be worse though, but I know more than enough people who're stuck at 16MBit/s or even less, and that's the vast majority. Like the ones that didn't have a VR HMD yet in the Steam statistics like half a year ago... Grats though
mr_mojo97 Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 For the last 12 years here we've been on 8MB/s!! We live in the oldest town/ village in Scotland so because of it's historic nature, the utility companies couldn't lift the road to put in the new cables. But now they've found a way MSI M5 z270 | Intel i5 7600k (OC) 4.8GHz | MSI GTX1080ti Gaming X 11Gb | 500gb Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 (DCS World) | 500gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD (OS and Apps) | 32Gb 2400MHz DDR4 - Crucial Ballistix | Be Quiet Silent Loop 240mm | NZXT H440 case | Thrustmaster Warthog - 47608 with Virpil Mongoose joystick base | MFG Crosswinds - 1241 | Westland Lynx collective with Bodnar X board | Pilot's seat from ZH832 Merlin | JetSeat | Oculus Rift S | Windows 10 | VA |
BitMaster Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Actually, there is FTTH in Germany as well, believe it or not. Friends and Clients have up to 1Gbit Downstream and like 50Mbit ( iirc!) Up. But I do agree, there is no nation wide broadband access for each and everyone available. Politics have failed miserably in that regard.
