I've been flying the F-18 for a few weeks and its been fun. Now I am in a campaign and want to get my countermeasures and ECM setup.

There seems to be not much to the ECM. Turn it on, let it warm up, do the BIT test, and then set it to do its thing.

However, I am having trouble with executing the C/M programs. I can set them up, but I cannot get them to execute.

Here's what I do:

1. Set the Master Switch to ARM

2. Turn Dispenser switch to ON

3. Go to the C/M screen set up the chaff and flares quantities and intervals.

4. Save the program.

My flares are mapped to my throttle coolie hat right and the chaff is mapped to throttle coolie hat left. These work fine when I am in Dispenser BYPASS; they will manually dispense. However, when I try to turn on the C/M program and use either coolie hat position, I get nothing.

I know I am missing something. I just don't know what it is.

On the EW page, box ALE-47 with the top center button, then hit the MODE button on the bottom to set it to Manual (SA and AUTO are not currently implemented). You'll see which mode and which program is currently selected under the ALE-47 box on the top. With this done, CMS aft will run the currently selected program, and CMS forward will always run Program 5. It can also be useful to bind the sidewall dispense button, which gives you a third button that will run Program 6.

Another note: the ECM / ASPJ it not modeled in the Hornet yet, so there's not need to fiddle with the ECM dial. It doesn't do anything right now.

Thanks Bunny! However, my CMS hat is programmed for Weapons Select (default). CMS aft is GUNS, CMS FWD is AIM-7s.

Secondly, will the flare and chaff mappings work to activate the CM program if turned ON?

The Hornet has it's own CMS, it's a two position switch on the throttle. The commands you want to map are: "Dispense Switch - Forward(CHAFF)/Center(OFF)" and "Dispense Switch - Aft(FLARE)/Center(OFF)."

When in BYPASS mode: forward will launch two chaff and aft will launch two flares.

When in ON mode: forward will run Program 5, and aft will run the currently selected program 1-5 (not sure why you can also select 5, doing that makes forward and aft do the same thing). You can cycle the currently selected program with the STEP button on the EW page.

You can also map the "Dispense Button" command, that's the red button on the side wall next to the throttle, and it will always run Program 6. Program 6 can't be edited in the jet though, if you want to change it you'll need to edit the ALE_47.lua file.
