Brainfreeze Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) Hi all, I am hoping someone can help resolve this without creating a thread that is 10 pages long with comments not moving things forward...so I will try to lay down all info needed. Problem: New hi spec gear see DCS (latest 2.5 beta) stuck at 50fps System: i7 10700F 2.9/4.8ghz + 32GB ram + RTX 2080 Super Monitors: 3 monitors -> 2x 1920x1080 60hz + 1x 2560x1440 59hz (in the middle) : Game resolution set at 6400x1440 in .lua. My Nvidia settings are attached (I reset them all and no DCS/application specific setting...only play DCS!) Game settings also attached. Cannot believe I should be stuck at 50fps … Looked everywhere, tried every trick I could find on forum (many contradict each other :() … nothing worked so far . Yeti42 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 A couple of questions first... 1. What is the refresh rate of your monitors? - Go to Display Settings > Advanced Display Settings and you should see the resolution and the refresh rate. 2. Have you run perfmon and noted what your bottleneck is? You can also use something like MSI afterburner to monitor CPU and GPU usage A stable 50fps at a resolution north of 4K is actually not bad for DCS or any flight simulator. Unless you are seeing significant lag, tearing or stuttering, I'd be fairly happy with 50 fps. You need to dome some research on frametimes, vsync, etc. Edit: I'm not a genius... Brainfreeze Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 Thks Yeti. Edited 1st post with refresh rates. Just installed msi afterburner ... RTX 2080 super is at 98%. CPU is 25% i9 14900K / 64GB / RTX 4090 / Varjo Aero / Winwing Orion2 + F15EX / Virpil Wrbrd + Alpha Stick + ACE pedals
Supmua Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Unfortunately, this is about what I would expect for the resolution that you are running although there will be people who would tell you to expect much higher frame rates here. You are rendering a total of 9.2m pixels compared to 7.2m for a typical 4K single screen. Things that can help. 1. Get rid of MSAA. 2. Medium water, Medium visibility. 3. If that doesn't yield desired fps, reduce resolution of the peripheral displays to 720p if you are just using them for export panels. 4. If you still need higher framerate, reduce the main display resolution to 1080p. PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. Yeti42 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Thks Yeti. Edited 1st post with refresh rates. Just installed msi afterburner ... RTX 2080 super is at 98%. CPU is 25% Which CPU is at 25%? all of them,? 25% average across all cpu's? one cpu? It does, however, look like you are bottlenecked by your GPU, which in DCS at that resolution is really not a surprise. My advise if you really need FPS above 60 is to Google nvidia settings for DCS and adjust accordingly (In nvidia tool not DCS) I've seen 20% increase in framerates by tweaking these settings. Brainfreeze Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) Yeti: CPU avg is 15-25%. Seems only 4-5 cores used. 1 is always 40-75%, other 4 are 10-50%. Supmua: did 1- and 2- on your list -> fps increased to 80-100fps ... gr8 stuff. Bob1943 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I have an i7-9700K and a 2070 Super and pretty much run DCS at Max settings on a 1440P monitor and usually get well over 60 fps. I have Anisotropic filtering OFF and MSAA set at 2x. Anisotropic filtering was a significant FPS killer for my system.
