AIM-54 Phoenix losing track upon launching aircraft death

I was going to post this with the AIM-54 Bug Thread, but I have not seen someone mention this behavior yet and I welcome anyone to prove/disprove our observation without getting into an argument about real life vs theoretical behavior. I think we can all agree once the missile goes pit-bull, the state of the aircraft should not matter.

We were getting some TacView tracks for a tutorial were working on and in the course of 12 engagements we found that if the originating aircraft dies (killed/ejected) the Phoenix it fired will go stupid even though the missile had already gone pit-bull.

We tried several different scenarios with 2 opposing Tomcats all with the same result, unless both missiles hit simultaneous. The final setup both A/C approached at FL30 Head-on, 1000kts closure rate, countermeasures disabled, blue shooting at 55nm in TWS. Blue ejected as soon as red got the missile RWR warning (at 5nm from target A/C), and sure enough the missile passed over the red A/C within 300 ft in a straight line.

As a control we had Blue turn cold when the missile went pit-bull and the missile did connect. It seems to depend on if Blue was alive or dead.

Thank you IronMike. I realized it was probably on EDs side, but I figured we would start here and preemt "it's Heatblur issue" before taking it to the DCS World thread.

Yes, that is always the best course of action. We'll see if we get anywhere, if not we'll have to give it to ED. Thanks again.

I have noticed this as well. On another note when exactly does the current AIM 54 model go bitbull?

Same as the AMRAAM i think?
