widow maker Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Hello all, I’m after some help and advice please as I have no idea about computers. I purchased the original A-10C boxed game back in 2011 and my computer was never really up to running it properly it just kept crashing. Anyway, moving forward after having children and now having spare time on my hands as I live away I want to buy a new pc for this game. It says on the back of the case in the recommended system requirements run windows vista or 7 which I know are now obsolete. I have also noticed looking at the version in the E-shop that the requirements have been updated saying windows 10, has the game had a revamp to run on this new system or is it still the same original version and my version will run on a new pc which I haven’t bought yet and looking at options. I really have no idea when it comes to on the tech side of things I would just love to play this game as I couldn’t do a lot with it before as it would just crash during a flight but loved it when it did work. Any advice would be most welcomed, I’m in the UK so any pointers to a recommendation on what to buy would be helpful too. Many thanks, Ashley

Do you have a CD key on/in that box? I will guess you can validate that key in the store, and then you can download the latest version in DCS. You probably would also purchase the upgrade to A-10C II which costs 10 bucks for a limited time. Contact support if you run into trouble. Cheers! Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
widow maker Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 Yeah I have the serial number on the booklet inside the box. Is it best to talk to support and go from there? If I have to buy it again I might look at a different platform but have to buy the pc first though.
Paganus Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 (edited) For the new PC, don't go by the minimum spec. Use the VR spec if you can afford it, but with a larger SSD. At least a 500GB for the Windows install and DCS. If you want to buy more maps or modules you'll need the extra. Forget the CD. All that matters is that key. You will download the DCS World installer and install it. It's free anyway. The A-10 will not be installed at this time. At this point I can't say for sure what will happen. You need a DCS account. (not the same as your forum account) If you already have an account and already registered that key, you would be able to select the A-10 and install it under the module manager in the game. If that key is not linked to your account you will need to log into your account and add the key. If you don't have an account you will need to create one the first time you run DCS when the login screen comes up, then use that same login/password info to log into the DCS website, and add the key. Modules were tied to the key in the past. Now they are tied to your login instead. After you link that key to your account, the account becomes the important part. Use a good password. Welcome back! Good luck! Edited October 5, 2020 by Paganus added

Or 2x1TB if the main board has several M2 slots. Cheers! Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
widow maker Posted October 5, 2020 Author Posted October 5, 2020 Thank you so much Paganus and MAXsenna for your help and information, I’ll see what the VR spec is and how much that will cost and go from there. Might be a while up and running hut I’ll get there and looking forward to it. Do I require constant internet access as I don’t have that just my phone that I can hotspot if needed.

Or, you just need to validate the account every three days, and a cellphone hotspot should be absolutely adequate! Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
BuzzU Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 You don't need the VR specs if you're not going to use VR. Buzz
