lazduc Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Price vs. value in design, VKB and Virpil. In your opinion and ownership of these joysticks which BASE is the best design? I think VKB joysticks base has only one supported bearing on each axis, can you confirm this? The Gladiator series (Least expensive model series) has supports on both ends of the axis. Albeit these assemblies are plastic as their Gunfighter series is metal. Lazduc
eatthis Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 i cant comment on vkb because ive never used 1. as for virpil i have 2 warbird bases and a mongoose cm2 base. mechanically theyre both fantastic, VERY well built and great to use, they do however have 1 achilles heal and thats the cable that runs from the stick to the main pcb in the base. all 3 of mine have gone, their customer service is good though and theyve sent me new cables every time without issue. compared to the warthog base theyre amazing and i highly recommend them 7700k @5ghz, 32gb 3200mhz ram, 2080ti, nvme drives, valve index vr
norbot Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 In my opinion the WarBRD has the best mechanics. The VKB isn't really worse, but I had bought the Gunfighter Mk. I and wasn't really amused, when VKB simply modified the 3-pin-connector, with the new version not being compatible to the old one. You also have to use adapters for the TM Warthog or TM F/A-18 stick, so in the end I sold my Gunfighter an got a WarBRD. Absolutely happy with it. Just take a look at the mechanics. It's a beauty. :smilewink:
BuzzU Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Is the WarBRD supposed to be used without an extension? Buzz
norbot Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) Is the WarBRD supposed to be used without an extension? https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-warbrd-base.html Quote from the Virpil WarBRD details: 'While it is possible to use extensions on the VPC WarBRD base, it is primarily designed for non-extended use. Due to the large deflection angle it is possible that you may encounter clearance issues between the grip and the VPC Desk Mount. During certain maneuvers it could be possible to damage your grip by hitting the desk mount. The included cams and springs are also tailored for non-extended setups. Using any extensions on the VPC WarBRD is at the user's responsibility. Any damages caused to VPC devices (grips) by using an extension on the VPC WarBRD base will not be covered under warranty. There is no concern to the VPC WarBRD itself when using extensions.' Edited October 11, 2020 by norbot
eatthis Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Is the WarBRD supposed to be used without an extension? ive used a warbird with 100mm extension for months. no problems at all with it. the main chassis appears to a milled from a single block of ali. VERY robust mechanically. the mongoose base gives a bit more adjustability really but thats about all ive noticed. both are top draw mechanically 7700k @5ghz, 32gb 3200mhz ram, 2080ti, nvme drives, valve index vr

When my Warthog base fails I was planning on getting the WarBRD base and I use an extension. Buzz
