Dalva24 Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 So after reading around, including the flight manual itself, everything seems to suggest that while in AA Mode, the TGP can actually lase a target. Problem is the manual only mentions the CMBT OSB, and does not metion how to fire the laser itself:If the Laser switch on the AHCP is set to ARM, then “CMBT” will appear on the top line of the label. The system action OSB can be used to cycle the lower line of the label to ON and OFF. If set to OFF, the laser will be unable to fire. Being curious, I tried a simple mission carrying APKWS with couple of enemy helicopters as a target. Acquiring TGP track on the heli is pretty straightforward, and I have also set CMBT to ON. TMS UP Long while on TGP SOI just for good measure, and held down the pinky switch that is normally use to lase on AG Mode. There is no indications on the TGP page that I am currently lasing, and fired the APKWS. Despite the lack of lase indication, the rocket hit fair and square on the helicopter, which seems to suggest the lasing actually works. Surprised, I tried a few more passes repeating the same steps, but none of the passes afterwards results in the rocket tracking the supposedly-on laser. So, can you actually lase on AA Mode? was my first hit is simply pure luck? is this feature incomplete? is there supposed to be a lasing indication on the AA TGP Page? or is it correct as is?
LeCuvier Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Why not try to go after slow aircraft like helicopters in A/G mode? Dalva24 Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 Of course that works fine, but if the AA mode can actually lase, locking on to helicopters or slow moving airplanes would be much easier
