Ok i need some guidance from some of you pros on the R-27 missiles usage.

1st question.. Does the payload screen lie abut the missile ranges?

The payload screen claims the max range for the EM is 110km, ER 75km, R 50km, ET 70km & T 40km. However i find these ranges to be massively exaggerated.

I also find the EM & ER only effective well below 30km. I end up making most my kills with ETs or 73s. I find the EMs & ERs are only good for putting the enemy on the defensive, or using at short ranges, at any kind of distance they rarely hit their target, they seem very easily fooled.

What weapon is best used under which conditions? And any further guidance on their usage would be much appreciated.

Thanks for any help given

Don't forget about firing altitude - from 1000m missile range will be example 20km, fired from 10 000m it is example 50 km. It is very important... R, ER, EM series are SAR missiles and are eeer "crappy". In game for the best missile I would vote for ET - deadly missile. I would advice to use EM (on Su-33) rather on flat areas than mountains. Similar to ER but it is main Su-27 weapon so you have to have it :P. Always take IR to mountains fights - ET and 73 - you can sneak to enemy and fire ^^. Hmmm about 30 km effectivity - most fights are on similar range so it isn't something strange in game.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Thanks Boberro, i knew the altitude made a difference.. i just didn't realise how big a difference it made.

Ok so the R, EM & ER are crappy.. a good description, i concur!! At least it's not just me, i thought i might be doing something wrong.

The ER and EM has exactly the same burn time/max speed/range, ingame atleast.

We've also done testing where we made a kill at 200km with a ER (using HOJ). Both Shooter and target was flying at 20'000m :)

If you want to see results with the ER/EM you should try to launch from 30-40km at medium altitude, 50km if you're really high. Also you must get a Look-up situation for the radar, the missiles will have a much better chance of hitting then.

Thats why those figures are only as maximum ranges, particulary if were talking about targets that think dying is not their thing. :)

I also hold from shooting them till 40-30km as well. Shooting further will result the target from breaking your radar lock by notching or running away. Its a limitation of SARH comcept and, again is not taken in account when measuring a wepons range. Because range and efecteviness are 2 distinct things.

Thanks for the info lads.. & Brit Radar i did search but found nothing.. so thanks for the link.. i'll have a read.

.... good info there Brit.. thanks mate, i think i understand the different parameters involved now :)

All R-27E_ missiles have the same burn time and burn speed like

X-man says, but ET has more drag than the others after it

stops burning.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
