TonyStovepipe Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 (edited) Looking at buying the Thrustmaster MFD cougar panels. I would like to mount them both onto one monitor side by side but I am not sure of the size I would need? Thanks you for any help. Edited October 19, 2020 by gothicghost

Colt Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 An 11.6in screen fits two mfd's next two each other perfectly, but will leave some space at the top (or bottom)
TonyStovepipe Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 An 11.6in screen fits two mfd's next two each other perfectly, but will leave some space at the top (or bottom) That what I want to do :D What monitor is that? Thank you.
Colt Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) It's a "Kenowa" 11,6 inch portable monitor, full HD, bought on Amazon. Pretty generic, and there are a couple of other manufacturers that make identical monitors, such as WIMAXIT. Mine has a HDMI and VGA input. It works pretty well. I plan on putting the Buddy Fox UFC on top of the MFDs (although its also a good spot for your phone if you're running smoothtrack on it). It is a bit of a rabbit hole though - I've been looking at 23/24 in touch screens to run Helios on... and from there it's a short step to building your own 'pit... ADDED: I've used "virtual cockpit server" to place the output from MFDs correctly. Edited October 20, 2020 by Colt
Zulu_Uniform Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 I took a standard 11.6 from Amazon (around 80 USD on prime day) and 3D-printed a plate to screw on the MFDs and to hold the BuddyFox on top. It also masks all unused areas of the display. the best thing is that the whole assembly is instantly removable and I can use the monitor for other content... 1
Colt Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 That looks pretty good - I was eyeing the Monstertech mounts as well. Do you perhaps have the file available for the plate? Did you print it yourself or did you have it done somewhere?
Zulu_Uniform Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 (edited) Here you go, all measures are in mm. I added some thin foam on the back to have a snug fit and provide some clearance for the screws. A friend printed it for me but I also looked at the countless companies offering prints on the web (craft cloud, Shapeways, etc., with craft cloud being the cheapest at around 40 USD for a standard print). You could also do CNC, laser cut or whatnot and bend with sheet metal. For reference also have a look at the technical measurements following the link. As a sidenote: I am very happy with the monstertech mount with this screen assembly. It is impeccable quality and looks awesome. I now have to do a lot of cable management, though ;) Cougar MFD Pack size - ED ForumsMFD plate v1.step.zip Edited October 23, 2020 by Zulu_Uniform
Colt Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Thanks. I'm think about adding a holder at the back to hold my phone while it's running SmoothTrack, but Fusion 360 isn't the most intuitive interface when coming from blender or sketchup. Which material did you use for the 3D print (I'm a complete noob when it comes to 3D printing)?
Zulu_Uniform Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 I can update an obj file later to be used in Blender. For the print I used standard SLA Nylon. I recommend craftcloud to do it if you don’t have access to a printer yourself.
Colt Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Thanks - managed it. I'll try craftcould. Any recommendations on the infill % ?
Zulu_Uniform Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 I think we used 20% Looks good, but wouldn't it be better to shift it a little back so you can have a hole to pass through the charging cable as well?
Colt Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Thanks. Yes, made a hole, it wasn't visible on the previous image
ZBoT Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I took a standard 11.6 from Amazon (around 80 USD on prime day) and 3D-printed a plate to screw on the MFDs and to hold the BuddyFox on top. It also masks all unused areas of the display. the best thing is that the whole assembly is instantly removable and I can use the monitor for other content... That is really slick! Thanks for posting the plate STEP. Do you have the STEP or STL for the Buddy Fox holder as well? Zulu_Uniform Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I use the dedicated Buddy Fox holder from Monstertech. If you order from them anyway, its not that expensive. What you also could do is use the screw holes from the Buddy fox and use longer screws to attach it directly to the plate.

Colt Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Thanks. Rushed it a bit and would change the design if had to redo it, but pretty happy for now. Next up: cable management!
TonyStovepipe Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 That looks nice^^^ I have now got my 11.6 monitor :D 1
