Playing in VR then launching with VR hardware disabled causes a permanent hang

Playing in VR then later launching with VR hardware disconnected causes a permanent hang on the black splash screen, the game never progresses to the menu.

 

Present in Open Beta and stable branch.

 

Workaround:

Go to C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config

Open Options.lua

Set ["enable"] = false on line 7

Are you aware that you can launch DCS in VR or pancake mode with the headset connected ?

Unplugging the headset causes a hang if VR mode was still enabled when you last exited the sim.

 

It should still launch regardless of whether hardware is connected.

My experience is that DCS will try to boot in the mode it was last in , which seems to be the cause of your problem . There are a couple of ways to ensure DCS boots it the manner you wish . Skatezilla has a very useful (and free) utility in the DCS World Topics/mods/dcs mods section . Look for Skatezilla's Updater GUI . Note that this is not a mod in the usual sense of the term (it doesn't modify anything) and can be used without fear .
