Hey all,

Is the procedure for using the AGM 65E really such a dance now? I tried using it last night and had to use two hands on my flight stick to lock and fire... i MUST be doing something wrong:

set LTD/R arm - right side

right DDI FLIR - lock target

box TRIG

Here is where i think i'm screwing up...

Once tgt locked, I press trigger on hotas LTD flashes in right DDI,

Sensor select left to MAV ... Mav auto uncages and slews to TGT. (I am still pulling on Trigger as when I stop the lock for mav is lost and it starts a search pattern again )

Wait for white box on MAV. Hit pickle whilst still holding trigger down.

Is this right? I find it really hard to manipulate the SOI and pickle while holding the trigger down on my hotas warthog. Maybe my trigger spring is just too high but dang it really feels sloppy as a process.

I'd also like to ask all youtube tutorial content creators to do us a favor and delete their old tutorials that are no longer relevant... there are a few out there that are teaching processes that no longer work making it hard to find the latest procedure.

Thanks for any help.

S!

No need to box TRIG. The pickle button will auto-fire the laser. You can do it in two steps: PICKLE ->Observe LTD/R flashing-->Wait for LOCK--> PICKLE again, or just HOLD PICKLE and missile will come off the rails when locked and in range.

Note: MANY of us have experienced a problem either constantly or intermittently where the MAV will not lock unless the TDC is on the FLIR (TPOD) page.

Set LTD/R arm

DESIGNATE a target with FLIR (make sure Laser code matches Maverick and Designator)

TDC to MAV page. Uncage (may happen automatically esp. for the first missile)

PICKLE once (OR HOLD) -> LTD/R will flash in HUD and FLIR.

Wait for MAV to acquire the lock and show IN RANGE. PICKLE AGAIN (or HOLD above)

YOU MAY HAVE TO MOVE TDC BACK TO FLIR to get the MAV TO LOCK as above. Not everyone has this issue..

FYI, the latest tutorials on YOUTUBE from Grim Reapers and Redkite show the new PICKLE for firing the laser and obsoleted TRIG (which is only needed for BUDDY LASING)

(MAV-E at around 20 min)

Is this process valid in both Stable as well as OB?

Thanks muchly

FYI.. BIG OB update coming TODAY which will render my previous statement incorrect :) but as far as basic functionality, (Pickle vs. TRIG) there shouldn't be any changes. Might fix the TDC "bug" though..

For me it is:

1) Designate a target with TGP (any mode really, as long it stays where you want it to stay, so no need to depress TDC)

2) Arm Laser (LTD/R switch UP)

3) Select the MAV from inventory by pressing twice the OBS button (and confirm same laser code).

4) Select MAV DDI with TDC (TDC on that display direction), maverick seeker now automatically slaves to the TGP position.

5) Hold release button until Maverick is released.

So I only need to press release button once to launch the missile, no need to press twice.

Yes I mentioned that option above as well. Due to some inconsistencies in how the MAV was locking, I was tending to do it in 2 stages so I could observe when the lock occurred. Under normal conditions, just holding the pickle will fire the laser and fire the missile when all pre-conditions are met.

The patch didn't change anything in that respect. Switching to FLIR to get a lock still might be correct behaviour. We still need input from BN on this.
