Hi all

Still planning to jump into VR.

Was advised to wait for the RTX 30 series to become available.

Thing is, I only play occasionally, a 3070 is the best part of £600 if not more and the 3080 £1K.

You can pick up a GTX 1080ti for £400.

From initial reviews they didn’t seem to be worth the extra money or am I missing something.

Any advice much appreciated.

Uhh...yes?

Those cards are two generations apart (4 years). 1080 Ti has 3584 CUDA cores of an older uArch (Pascal). A 3070 has 5884 CUDA cores of the new "Ampere" architecture. The new chip has denser components that run on less power as well. Gamers wouldn't be freaking out for the new cards if they didn't improve performance. Youtube is full of gaming benchmark videos right now. The 3070 is the best price/performance card out until the new AMD cards are properly tested.

Now if you are hitting CPU bottlenecks then it won't matter. But I wouldn't pay 400 pounds for a 1080 Ti unless it was a hybrid or a Kingpin. If you can get a good price on a 2080 Ti that's something to consider.

What is the CPU you will be playing with?

the 3070 is far faster than a 1080ti, and the 3080 even more so, but DCS is a CPU hog as well...

I’ve basically got £1000 for a graphics card, CPU and motherboard.

I’ve already got everything else I need pretty much.

Any help appreciated.
